symptoms

Hello girls.

I'm fine Augustbump. Bit of a scare again yesterday as I'd been having pain for two days and then started spotting again yesterday morning but went in to the doctor, had a scan and a blood test, and all still okay. Doctor thinks the pain might be my kidney. I wonder if everybody is this paranoid or whether because this is such a hard earned pregnancy that I am more so. Just praying I get through the next six weeks and out of the first trimester danger...a day at a time. How are you? Everything okay?

MayC, Hkiegal, exciting that you are starting soon. Had either of you done an FET before - I don't think so right? I found it much easier than the IVF first round. Let us know when you get started. Thinking of you both.

Hi Everyone
My apologies for my LOOOOONG silence...I was away doing some volunteer work in the Philippines.

Adrianna....my heart hurts for you. I know the ache of the negative, and good for you for knowing that you needed to stop posting for awhile. Very glad you are back. We are here to support you, lovey.

Liquorice - congratulations on hearing the HB! that is wonderful news and we are so pleased!

Mayc & Hkiegal - Here's to a great month for you both.

August - How are you?

Kazbo - WELCOME!

Hi ladies,

It's my birthday today, and I am turning 40! ;) (still feel incredibly young at heart though)

Just a little update, had a phone conversation with dr on sat, and he seemed to want me to rest for another month before proceeding to FET. But the problem is we are going away for summer holiday in mid June, and will be away for 3 weeks, I am worried that if we delay it until after the holiday, then it will be at least july/august. Dr also raised this concern that if I do my FET in May, then I'll literally be on holiday right after finding out the result. Honestly, to me, I am not so worried if I fail pregnant as this will be a very relaxing holiday so I can just rest and enjoy the "clean" air in Vancouver!

Do you think the doctor is a little over concern, or I should listen to him? (I guess the fact the I am turning 40 makes me want to waste no more time as I feel time is running out!)

Would love to hear what you girls think and how is everyone doing?

Dear hkiegal, first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We are close! My birthday will be on 18th of May, turning 40 the same! (we both are Taurus!!!) I wish you all the best and, especially, we know what!
About FET I think you must feel it! I mean you should do it when you are ready, prepared mentally and phisically! I have a very good friend , Chinese lady from North, doctor in Chinese medicine. She convinced me to wait another month (I wanted to do it this month, after only 1 month break) because talking with me about the feelings, wishes and so on, she think I am not mentally prepared and I will not help the FET. She explained to me that is very important our status, or body and our mind, as a natural circle.
I decided to wait another period cycle and started at the end of May.
So, you must check with your doctor if his ideas to wait are because is good for you or because of some busy agenda of them in the hospital. If it is good for you, my advice is to wait a little bit and not risk this second time which could be THE ONE!
It's only my opinion, you asked it and I gave you honestly. This not means is the best....
A big hug, have a wonderful day!

Hi hkiegal,

First of all - happy birthday!! Hope you have a lovely day.

Why does your doctor want you to rest? Did he give specific reasons - to allow your body more time to normalise? Or is it just about being away afterwards?

Personally, I wouldn't worry about going on holiday straight afterwards. It would be a good thing to do whatever the result - take your mind off it if it failed, fresh air and content and calm if it worked!

I had a kind-of similar quandry going for my FET. Although my husband and I are already married (on paper), we are having our proper wedding in the UK in a couple of weeks; a week in the UK then 2 weeks on honeymoon. After I failed my IVF I was thinking maybe I should wait until after the wedding so I could stop taking drugs and calm myself and my mind and fully enjoy my wedding and honeymoon. But that would have meant three more months before I could start again, and like you I didn't want to waste time not knowing how long it might take, so I decided to go ahead and do it. I figured that if it failed then at least I had a good distraction ahead of me and I could drink champagne at my wedding and eat and drink what I wanted on honeymoon.

Of course, this is not as soon after the result as yours (5 weeks later) but unless your doctor feels there are specific reasons why you need to rest longer, or if you cannot see a doctor in Canada if you need to, then I think it would be okay.

And hikigal - yes of course, as Adrianna says, ultimately you should do it when you feel it is right, and if you don't really feel it is right at this time but are worried about leaving it late, then you should wait until you're ready - ultimately a couple of months won't make a difference. x

MayC,

Excited for you! And I am so glad that you feel ready for this.

My understanding is that you will not need injections. I think they just wait until you ovulate naturally and then do the FET. Not sure whether they force ovulation with an injection when they decide it is the right time though. Or whether they will give you hormones at the later stage if your uterus lining isn't thick enough (like mine wasn't). You certainly won't be on as many hormones with your natural cycle as I was, which is a very good thing for you!!

Anyway, I don't know I am just speculating so should be quiet. I'm very interested in the process though so please let us know when you see the doctor on Friday and find out what is going to happen.

Wishing you lots of luck and keep posting!

Hello ladies

I thought I'll help you out a bit. First of all - yes FET does work - mine worked on the second try and my little eskimo is sitting right in front of me:)

Natural cycle involves more scans - they track your ovulation and when you are ready they give you a HCG injection and do the transfer a few days after. You will then get progesterone and possibly estrogen but Every cycle is different and it all depends on your bloodwork.

Do trust your doctor I know at times it's hard not to compare but every cycle is different. If you are not sure ask - you are paying a lot of money for it so it is your right to ask as many questions as you wish. I actually phoned my doc on his mobile once when I wasnt sure about a drug I was taking.

As for travelling - up to you. I went to work the same day but 4 weeks later had some bleeding and had to stay in bed for a week. The proximity to the doctor helped - he acted immediately and saved my pregnancy. Not sure if you will have someone like that where you are going. Is it worth it spoiling your honeymoon with worries and constant nausea?:) Maybe the hols will give your body the boost of energy you need? If you still go ahead just ask the doc for the drugs to take with you. THey often know specialists in different countries and might be able to give you emergency contact. Also take their mobile number with you.

I know it's hard not to rush to the next FET but your body, mind and relationship needs a rest too.I had space of 3 months between each attempt. These are some serious drugs you are taking so you need to respect your body too.

I wish you lots of luck - it will happen very very soon.
Meanwhile if you have any questions let me know.

hi everyone

sorry for not logging on for ages.. i think i caught a cold.. feel a bit achy and tired and what not.

but firstly.. happy birthday hkiegal.. i think you have a lot of good advice from fellow forum members - so at the end. do what you feel is right for you.

mayc.. exciting time for you.. the natural cycle fet involves very little injections.. infact just for blood test to track your ovulation.. so dont worry too much.. Mela is right.. ask all the questions you have to Dr Ho and Kelly... they will be the right persons to advice and to tell you the facts.

liquorice...how is the first trimester going for you?I have a scan tomorrow morning.. a bit worried as usual but cant wait either..

take good care everyone.. lots of flu/cold bugs flying around!!

Hi August, I'm all fine. Scan in one week. I had one just last week though as well after a scare - an unfounded one... I think I'd be happy if I had one every couple of days just to check everything is still okay !! No sickness, none at all, but real exhaustion. Good luck with your scan tomorrow. How are you doing otherwise?

Thanks for the welcome from everyone.

Looks like I will be starting my cycle in about 3 weeks - so mid-end of May.

Adrianna, does this coincide with you? (though I appreciate you are doing an FET, right?)

HKgal, did you make a decision in the end? Although I am a novice at all this, ultimately I think it's less about actual age and more about egg quality. And your doctor should be able to judge that. A friend of mine who is younger than you by a few years was told she had to do IVF immediately as she would run out of eggs in 6 months. Having said that she still took off a few months between first try (chemical pregnancy) and the FET, so I am sure you will be fine if you decide to wait.

Incidentally has anyone with Dr Ho had the egg reserve test (something like AMH?) or the hostile cervical mucous test? I guess the latter isn't so important with IVF - just wondered.

Also, does anyone else's husband take the Menevit supplements? And have you managed to get then anywhere other than at the doctor's?

MayC - good luck with your appt this week. Sounds like the natural FET could be a walk in the park for you this time!

One thing I like about my doctor is everytime there is a test result, he calls me personally to deliver the news. It just makes it so much more personal, and whenever I have a question and call the clinic, he calls back within the hour.

I haven't decided on what to do yet, but I feel ready if the doctor thinks my body is ready for it too. Have an appointment with him next thursday to discuss over this, and any subsequent plans, I still have 7 frozen embies.

All the best tomorrow, MayC. Let us know how it goes!

hi mayc!

you are stronger than what you think you are! so dont fret too much. you will be ok once friday comes and the procedures start.

as for me.. i am going thru a rough patch of morning sickness, fatigue and what not! just have to suck it all in!

my scan went ok but will have to do a oscar test in 4 weeks time with dr lam for down syndrome. fingers crossed.. it will be ok.

as for everyone else..hang on tight... your time will come.. all the best.xxx

augustbump, I thought you were also with Dr Ho. Have you changed doctors?

I always wonder what I'd do if/when I become pregnant - should we keep going with him as antenatal doctor.

hi kazbo

i am still with dr ho for antenatal consultation. i figured that since i was with him right from the start.. so why not continue? but its really a personal choice..i am comfortable with his nonsense attitude, he tells you what you need to know, he does his best and thats all i can ask for.

when do you start fet/ivf?

mayc - how was yesterday? ok?

Augustbump - so Dr Lam was just for this special test?

I start fresh IVF on my next cycle, in about 3 weeks. Enjoying a drug free life in the meantime and a few glasses of wine and coffee!

MayC, Don't know if you can be bothered or want to spend more money but I used to get annoyed with those OPKs too so I bought the digital ones (also by Clearblue). They are much better as they just show a smiley face if you are surging.

Also, although Dr Ho doesn't think it makes a difference I read somewhere that if you do it in the afternoon and wait 4 hours after last going to the toilet they are more accurate. So that will help with the lines. Don't forget that the surge only indicates you will ovulate, not that you are actually ovulating. I sometimes take 2 days to ovulate after I see a positive on the OPK so that means if you are due to ovulate on Friday, you could see a positive on Wednesday afternoon. And of course you could just ovulate early with all the excitement and disruption... Dr Ho probably gave you an indication of when he thought you'd ovulate, no?

Try not to worry too much - I know it's useless my saying this! You will be fine, I'm sure...

Good luck with your pee sticks!

Hi MayC

Thinking about you and hoping that things will go your way very soon. I too was obsessed with the OPKs. I used to have lines 2 days in a row and then I wouldn't know which day I actually had my surge. And like kazbo, I eventually got the digital ones, and just went on the smiley face. I hated how expensive they were though.

I had also read somewhere about doing the test in the afternoon. But then I remembered Dr Ho saying it's best to do it before midday, just as long as it's not first thing in the morning. Can't remember the exact reason, something about the levels being highest then??

Good luck, I know it's difficult to do, but try not to be too stressed. We are all here for you.
