Due Oct-Dec 08??

we're doing Annerley classes at 28 weeks - in September. Hubby promises that he'll be able to get out of work early, but I give that 50/50 odds! Hopefully he can do half-days for the really important days.

I also signed up for their postnatal care package, with 5 postnatal home visits. I am excited about that as my mom won't come until Christmas, a month after baby is born!

My hubby just broke the news that he pre-ordered 'rock band' for the Wii - this entails setting up an entire drum set in my living room - i am NOT thrilled let me tell you! :)

I don't like the whole confinement idea ;) My hubby is Chinese though and my MIL pretty much told him that he should MAKE me do it - but I said "no" not too timidly ;) None of my "ancestors" have ever done it so I don't particularly see its relevance to me. Plus I'm DEFINITELY gonna wanna shower and wash my hair after the baby is born! I like my showers too much for that kinda thing!! And I don't like ginger, especially that black one that is meant to be great for after labour... ;)

Hey all - 20 week scan yesterday showed 'probably' a BOY! Hubby and I are both excited!

As for Baby/Children Products Expo - sounds great - should we get a group together to go? Maybe we can get bulk discounts on items!?!

Congrats!!

Kmalia!! Thats great I think you've got the first boy (awesome!!!).

Happy shopping!

I would so go to the baby expo with you guys!! It's a great time in our pregnancy to be going! Not so early that we're clueless about everything, but not so late that we'll already have everything and be too big and uncomfy to spend time shopping!!

Have not been able to check the forums lately as have been really busy at work! The baby expo is great for discounts but it is REALLY crowded.

Get some labels ready with your names, contact info and baby's DOB as you get a booklet of coupons with discounts, but you need to fill in these coupons before the booths give the discounts/free gifts to you, so having labels will save a lot of time!

I stocked up on nappies last year and am still using my supply! haha

I just carted the Orbit Infant Stroller System back from the US - very excited to start playing with it! Have my 23 week scan tomorrow - very anxious!

In other news, my half-sister just had a baby! They induced her a month early, mainly because it was her first and she is young. But the crazy thing is the doctor told her it was going to be a boy and it was a GIRL! I suppose the moral of the story is: you don't know until baby gets here!

I thought that they couldn't get the boy wrong. I thought what they see is considered significant enough to be 100% sure. Wow, she's going to be fully decked out in baby blue for the first year or so. Not so bad I guess...

That's crazy - I'd cry if that happened to me ;) Most of my "big things" are gender neutral, because I figured I'd probably use them for more than one baby anyway... but pretty much ALL the clothes and blankets and everything like that is gender specific - I'd have to totally do ALL the clothes shopping all over!!

My tummy's been going insane lately. Crazy baby!!! I've got an appointment on Friday, I'm sure everything's gonna be fine...

Has anyone done the glucose tolerance test? Do they do that to everyone over here? Or only if you have sugar in your urine?? I have diabetes in my family, although I'm not showing any of the signs of gestational diabetes... but I know this is about the time that we have that test done... I'm 27 weeks now. Third trimester!!

Nicole, congrats on the reaching the 3rd trimester, I know I was suddenly hit with tiredness the first couple of weeks but that seems to have eased off now.

My doctor isn't doing the glucose test for me due to my age, no history of diabetes and so far my urine must be looking good...!! But it might vary with doctors, my friend (who just had her baby today!) had one and she's 5 years younger then me.

I'm gonna ask them about the glucose test at my appointment. I don't particularly think that I NEED it, apart from late onset diabetes being in my family *shrugs* I don't particularly look forward to the idea of drinking that disgusting syrup though!!

I've been SO tired - but I had a really busy weekend too... I can't tell if I'm tired from the pregnancy or from not getting enough sleep! Probably a bit of both...

Tell me about it! That drink is disgusting and I had to do it TWICE!!! The first time simply cos family history. Result was negative. Second time was the routine "everyone had to do it" at around 30 weeks. That one came back slightly high - unfortunately. Hence I'm now on this "diet" to keep my blood sugar level throughout the day.... and THEN I had to go in to TY for the WHOLE DAY (9am-8.30pm) to do the glucose profile - eating their crappy food the whole day "according to my diet plan" and them measuring my blood sugar level 2 hours after each meal. It was NOT pleasant! That's come back fine but apparently I still need to be careful with my diet....

Stupid thing is I was only over by 0.2mmol! Some of the other ladies there were over by 2+mmol! Every urine test has been normal - they're not very accurate.

Fingers crossed you don't have to go through that though nic!

With Tsan Yuk, is it routine everyone has to do it? Coz I'm with them too - so maybe I will have to do it, just as routine!!

That's crazy, you had to hang around at TY from 9am to 8:30pm?? There's not much exactly to do out there!! ;)

Weight Gain

I feel bad for all the moms delivering at Tsan Yuk :( Perhaps their just being thorough...

*I thought this was super interesting, it's breakdown of where all that gorgeous baby fat is begin allocated to:

How much weight should I put on during pregnancy?

First and foremost, it is important to accept that you are going to put on weight during pregnancy! You are meant to because your body is growing and changing to give your baby the best start in life. Here's where the extra weight comes from:

? At birth, your baby will weigh approximately 3,300g (7.3lb).

? During pregnancy, the muscle layer of your womb (uterus) grows dramatically and weighs an extra 900g (2lb).

? The placenta (afterbirth), which keeps your baby nourished, weighs 600g (1.3lb).

? Your breasts weigh an extra 400g (0.9lb).

? Your blood volume increases and weighs an extra 1,200g (2.6lb)
? You have extra fluid in your body, and amniotic fluid around the baby, weighing 2,600g (5.7lb).

? Plus, you will lay down some fat during your pregnancy to provide you with extra energy for breastfeeding. This comes to about 2,500g (5.5lb).

So, by the end of pregnancy you will weigh about 11,000g (24.2lb) more than you did before you became pregnant. This is an average weight gain but of course, you're not an average woman. And no woman is. Our pregnancy weight gain estimator can give you a more personalised indication of what you might gain. The amount of weight you should gain will depend on how heavy you were before you became pregnant. Or more accurately, on what your body mass index (BMI) was (see Calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI), below).
