I'd do a shopping trip with you guys sometime!!

We have a cot - but that's about it! We need to get EVERYTHING else. I've looked a LOT but can't decide!!

My tummy is HUGE today, seriously, in the last maybe 2 weeks, my tummy has doubled in size!! I wanna see how big all you guys are though coz I bet I'm still tiny lol

Planning on breastfeeding - but I'll see how it goes!!

So far, we've bought the crib from Chicco and will be getting the stroller from Chicco as well (the 3-in-1 ones) but will be ordering it from UK cos it's much cheaper that way - almost half price INCLUDING shipping! Got loads of clothes from my sis but will need to sort through them to see exactly what we've got and what else we might need. And just got a changing table as well....

Just had brief looks in Bumps to Babes (in Pedder street) and also Eugene but have not noted any prices or made any lists of what we'll need.... Seems a bit overwhelming with all the choices!!!

And yes, I'll be breastfeeding - so another question is which breastpump?!

I'm not gonna think about pumps until after the baby is here and I know whether I'll "need" it or not. I'm not going to be working - so I don't need it for pumping during the day at work... I've just gotta figure out the whole feeding in public thing!! One of my friends in Hong Kong pumped and then feed through bottles when she was out because she found feeling in public too difficult over here... but I dunno - I think I'll cross that bridge when we get to it. And you can always hire instead of buying too... maybe that's better!!

Nicole, I wasn't working either when I had D. A friend gave me her pump and I started pumping from 6 weeks. Am glad I did, because hubby enjoyed giving D a bottle before going to bed and I enjoyed the break. Also, if you want to step out for a bit without baby, someone can feed baby while you're gone. Just something to think about :)

oh my god, it os getting closer and closer. a little bit scary, don't you think??? i will definately go shopping with you guys. haven't bought anything yet :( but can't wait!
i guess i go for the pump as well. but don't know for sure yet. maybe i have to think abaut all that stuff soon, it all goes faster than expected.

Hubby has pretty much said that he wants me to make all the decisions about what to buy - but I'm SOOOO indecisive!! I'd rather spend a few hrs in each shop with him as well having a long, drawn out process to make sure that we get the PERFECT everything!! lol - I always second guess myself. I THINK I like something, then the next second, I'm not sure any more!

I've got sooooo much to do!!

I'm gonna start a "Shopping trip" thread in this area so we can plan a day and place!! Go look for it if you're interested!!

Update

nicolejoy, I am somewhat of an expert when it comes to pumping as I pumped exclusively for my baby girl for 10 months. My baby was premature at 33 weeks and would not feed directly, so expressing was all I could do.

My advice is to pump and store in the first few months since our babies won't need that much in the early months, but it is good to have spare. I remember that I was sick during one of the months and the doctor wanted to put me on antibiotics, which meant I could not feed my baby my expressed milk and I was so glad I had a supply stored in the freezer.

As for the actual pumps, I used the Medela Symphony which I rented as I needed to pump heavy duty. I also have the Mini Electric which I used when I went out to work. I did try the Avent handpump which some mothers swear by although I never used it as I liked my electrical ones.

You can also get some pumps second hand as it will be cheaper and a lot of them are in very good conditions.

Would love to meet up with you all as I have been sort of out of the loop! For my other mummies group, we actually set up a group yahoo e-mail account so we all all be in touch.

Everytime I log on, I seemed to have missed the gathering by a day or two!!! Hope to see you all soon. I pretty much have everything so just let me know what you are thinking of getting and I could let you know whether it is really needed.

For a lot of newborn stuff on the lists, we don't really need them, but I will definitely let you all know what to get (or not get). I also have a Mamas & Papas stroller for sale (I have only used it a couple of months) together with a Jacadi carseat for sale cheap if anyone wants to come and have a look (they go together), and was very practical, but my hubby wanted funky looking strollers so they are now in my storage.

See you all soon!

Hi everyone,

Sorry no contact for so long, I have been away on business for a couple of weeks.

I am loving my 23 weeks pregnancy - baby is kicking the hell out of me, we found out its a boy which I am delighted about and have indulged in quite a lot of shopping already!!

About to book my hypnobirthing at Annerley, purpleflower - how bad was the last antenatal at Tsun Yak, I am so relieved they are over I just do not feel like I learnt anything!

Anyway - look forward to seeing most of you for lunch tomorrow

Katie

Hey everyone,

Great meeting all of you guys again today!! Everyone remember to PM your email addy to Bubbly!!

Catch up soon!!

Hey Guys,

This may sound like a bit of a stupid question but, with regards to cot sheets, why do they always sell them as a set of fitted + flat sheet? Do we need to use both? Just that the fitted sheets aren't the right size... so can we just use the flat sheets?

i've been running araound all day to find a maxi cosi stroller, with carrying cot. but non of the shops i went have ever heard of it. i visited the web site, and there definately is such a thing. does anyone know where i can get it?
buyin babystuff isn't as easy as i thought.....

I had my ultrasound and my doctors appt at Tsan Yuk this week - I have to say that beside the waiting time (MUST take book - I drained my phone battery playing games on it!!), I was really impressed with them!! They were MUCH better than I even expected!! I didn't bother asking for a doctor rather than a trainee - but even so, they were really professional and friendly and everything!! I was actually happier there than I have been with some of the private doctors!!

Nicole, was that the ultrasound at QMH? I agree that the staff at Tsan Yuk/QMH seem very nice.... but the follow up appointments do really seem pointless! You'll definitely need a book for those! They just do the routine check you urine, bp and then you wait to see another nurse who checks your fundal height and listen to the heartbeat (I admit the first couple of times hearing it was really exciting) but now when you spend all that time waiting to just hear the 2 seconds.....

Nina - do you mean carry cot as in the flat ones? I've only ever seen maxi cosi car seats (I think), not carry cots. The only ones we've seen are the Chicco ones, hence we're going for the Chicco. If you do find it, let us know! (alternatively, see if you can find it from an online company that's willing to ship to HK - may work out cheaper!)

PF- you can check the website maxi-cosi.com, have a look at the maxi cosi city cx, it comes with a flat carry cot. there is also a number for hong kong, will try again on monday. see what they say. thanks for your tip, will definately have a look.

Purpleflower,

For sheets, you either buy flat sheets or fitted sheets (the ones with elastic at the corners). You do not need both. The advantage of flat sheets are that they fit any size cots, whereas the advantage of fitted ones are that they will not come out eve if the baby pulls or turns or does whatever in the cot (which they do). I love fitted ones as it's so easy to change sheets but of course you need to find the right size. Mothercare should have all sizes.

The only thing other than sheets you need will be protective cover (waterproof) for the mattress, so that if the baby wets the bed, spill things on it or vomits, it won't damage the mattress.

Ninah,

In HK, most strollers sold do not come with a carry cot, the exceptions are Bugaboo and Chicco. An alternative that people do is use a carseat carry cot which fits onto a lot of strollers. I have one of these strollers and also a Jacadi Maxi cosi car seat for sale so I can photograph it to show you what I mean.
Hope that helps.

That appointment was at Tsan Yuk hospital - they did the ultrasound there.

My next appointments are going to be somewhere in North Point. I'm happy - it's less than 5 minutes from my house! And my appointment is at 9am, so hopefully I get in quickly because that should be one of the first appointments of the day. I'll go a little earlier just to be sure...

We bought an NDS today so I've got some other mindless entertainments for waits etc ;)
