Due Oct-Dec 08??

Everyone's having scans!!! Nicole, I find it so funny that you MIL leaves today and your scan is "coincidentally" timed for tomorrow! :P

I just had my scan today, 17 weeks. Baby is SO big!!! Unlike last time, we couldn't see for sure whether it's a boy or girl though... :( (last time, it "looked like" it was a boy but was still too small to be 100%) We'll see...

Tinks - welcome back! My MIL and Nan-in-law (?) arrived from UK on that day too. They're really not the best flyers and it did scare them!!! Must have been around the same time, if not the same flight!

Ninno - how was your scan? You had it on Sat, right?

They could have done it today - but I told them tomorrow was more convenient ;)

I had a big talk with hubby about MIL today... I've just got a lot of frustration there - I wish I could "have it out" with her, be bluntly open about everything - but because of her culture/personality, if I did that, it'd pretty much ruin any hope of a decent relationship... I think it's not as "bad" as I probably sound - I'm just frustrated because I'd LIIKKEEE to have a GREAT relationship with her, but we're just not "naturally compatible personalities"...

I get along with her much better from a distance - or at least when we're not 24/7 in the same house!!

Anyways - I think I probably won't see her again now until October/November... we need to decide when is best for everyone to come visit - because she and my mum/sister all want to come over...

Scan

Nicole - so sorry to hear about your MIL issues...you mentioned that she's from a different cultural background- do you think it's an issue for her that you're not from her cultural background?

I went for my first scan last Saturday - it was so neat. My hubby and I just laughed with joy. And were truly surprised when we found out that I'm almost 3 months preggers, not 2!! The doctor actually had to tell me to calm down b/c the laughter was interfering with the ultra-sound.

.........b

I think my MIL "likes me" and "thinks I'm good for her son" - but we just have cultural differences between me and her... We actually don't have any PROBLEMS as such - but just a lot of "unsaid" stuff - because that's how it tends to be in Chinese culture... I'm used to getting all my feelings out there and being "open"... for me "openness" and "closeness" are directly related... but it's not like that for everyone...

Ultrasound in 2 hrs! Hubby's home sick today - not majorly, just a bit of sneezing/coughing etc... he hadn't taken any sick days this year so why not...

Hello everyone,

So had a mini drama last week as I started to bleed quiet heavy I went to see a private dctor and he said 60% of women bleed all through their pregnancy and although scary it is totally normal PHEW! I also had a scan and heard the heart beat and it was amazing! I am so relived it is all ok.

Go to the docs on Friday for all my blood results etc - feel anxious all the time I go in case something is wrong - I must realx!! Can we please start a Essentials To Buy list that we can update and email each other - I mean what do you actually NEED when you bring the baby home????

I wish someone could give you a guide book on all of this!!

I just got back from my appt - we went to Dr Lam at the Hong Kong Prenatal Diagnostic Clinic - I REALLY liked him. The only "bad" thing was that they were running REALLY late (like an HOUR late) - and his staff don't have the best English skills. Some of them are ok - but the nurse assigned to me was pretty bad...

The ultrasound was AWESOME - and they give you LOTS of shots, and a free CD with the scan on it!! I'd totally recommend them - but prepare for them to be running late. Maybe get an early morning appointment. It seems like it's a VERY busy clinic!!

He also told us what it was - I asked him how sure he was and he said "I'm tempted to say 100% sure!" - and I'm only 13 weeks!! We haven't decided on whether we're going to tell everyone what we're having though...

Kharel - you can find some "what to buy" lists online - but a lot of them seem to have a lot of things that I don't really think are necessary... like you don't need to buy a highchair for the baby until it's a bit older, it's not NECESSARY to have when you bring the baby home!!

I decided against doing all the blood testing for downs syndrome and genetic diseases. I don't need anything else to worry about!! And I wouldn't abort, even if something was wrong... so it's kinda irrelevant, I think...

Kharel,

Glad to hear everything is ok.

I found this essential items list on a baby website I belong to. (its an NZ site). From what my friends who have just had kids say it's pretty good.

Hi Everyone,
Had our 12 week scan and OSCAR testing on Saturday. My husband was unfortunately not there - he missed a good one! The baby was moving, I saw fingers and legs and the spine. It finally felt "real". And I got a call from doctor's office this afternoon that tests came back normal with a very low risk of down's. That's one less thing to worry about.
Although we're well beyond the point when you can safely share the good news, I still haven't told many people. We go for a another scan in two weeks, maybe then? I also can't comfortably look for baby stuff, worrying that I'll jinx things. I guess I just have to get over it!
Hope everything is going well with everyone! Looking forward to meeting up with everyone soon!

Kharel - Sorry to hear that you had some bleeding but glad to hear all is ok. I had some bleeding early on in my pregnancy and it really is horrible. Good luck for your blood results.

Nicole - Glad the scan went well - you must be chuffed at finding out the sex.

Mazamarie - Thanks for posting the list - it's fab.

Nino - Glad your OSCAR went well and you're low risk - it's such a relief isn't it? We didn't tell many people after our 12 weeks scan, except for family and friends in the UK. I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and I still haven't told lots of people here - they must think I right chubster at the moment as my waist has disappeared and I have about 14 chins :haha: We are slowly getting round to telling people but I still don't feel that I can shout it from the rooftops...just in case something goes wrong.

I tend to be a really "Don't worry about anything" kind of person (I think it's an Aussie thing - she'll be right, mate!!) - and I've gotta be honest, I'm not worried about my baby having any diseases... I mean, I figure - either it does or doesn't - and there's nothing I can do about it either way! And the "chance" that it does is sooo small anyway - so why waste my energy worrying about it??

I've lost about 3kg (7lb) since I found out I was pregnant!! But my tummy is heaps more round, particularly at night!! Does anyone else find that? At night, before I go to bed, I feel HUGE - but then in the morning, my tummy has disappeared again!! I asked my hubby if he thought it was all in my imagination and he says it's not - it's seriously about 4 times as big at night!! Craziness...

By the way, in case you are not aware, every August, there is a huge Baby Fair held at the Convention Centre. Lots of things like toys, diapers, formula, strollers, grobags, bumbo seats etc. go on sale there, so you might want to hold off shopping until you go to the fair. Don't know the dates yet though.

hey bubbly!!!

there was one similar kind of fair at ASIA WORLD EXPO last week.......but there was nothing on sale.
can u please let us all updated about the august fair........as i never heard about it.

thanks

baby bump that dissapears

Nicole - I totally know what you mean! So glad to hear it's not all in my head! When I go to bed I have a serious belly and in the morning - it's completely flat...weird!

......b

hi Ruchee,

The one you went to last week is a TRADE Fair, that is why you did not really find anything there, as it's all manufacturers and factories targetting buyers from overseas.

The one I mentioned in August is THE baby fair of the year and it's huge! Last year, they had 150,000 people visiting. This fair is a retail fair so you can buy things at a discount. Will keep you all updated when I have the dates.

There is also another fair organised by Parents Journal coming up on 17th & 18th May, but it is an Education Fair so am not sure whether there are any bargains or not. Have never been to this one but will have a look this year!

Thanks Bubbly!!!!!!

I am really looking forward for it.....by that time i'll enter in my 3rd trimester.......if everything goes well:flower:

Bubbles and Nicole, I also have the feeling my baby bump is disappearing! I guess I tend to look bloated in the evening and in the morning everything's fine! It's so frustrating!

Today, I am celebrating the end of the 16th week!
Next scan in 5 weeks (last one was 3 weeks ago), it seems so long, like time has stopped...

Is there a dinner being planned, the link I clicked on in one of bubbles' post didn't work...

Maman - Congrats on reaching the end of the 16th week. I in my 17th week and the 2nd tri seems to be going way quicker than the first, which just dragged!

Nicole - I'm with you on the stomach thing too, altlhough I wouldn't say it's totally flat in the mornings ;-) I hardly fit into any of my jeans now so am thinking I may have to buy some mat gear soon...yikes!!!!

Hello to everyone else xxx

People aren't offering me their seats on the MTR yet ;) I'll KNOW I look pregnant when THAT starts happening ;)

Has that happened for any of you guys yet???

I've had a couple!! Normally when I'm wearing maternity wear - didn't think it made it look that much different! They're all pretty casual looking stuff..?! But, then sometimes when I'm really tired, I just wish someone would offer me a seat :(

Me too - I already WISH I could sit down on every MTR because I get so tired and I don't feel like standing... maybe I should start wearing maternity wear. I totally don't need it though... although I do notice that my skirts that used to sit on my hips now sit closer to my belly button!!
