symptoms

I am new to the forum and am overwhelmed by the amount of support you girls are showing each other, good on you!

I am trying to concieve #1 more than 16 months now, and have just had our first IUI. Have been through all the obsessive searching on the net, 2 weeks of high hopes, thinking every single pre-menstrual symptom might actually be a sign, only to be devastated when the inevitable spotting and AF arrives. It is so heart breaking, and a journey few people understand unless they have gone through it themselves.

MayC, I too even thought about Feng Shui recently and whether we should get someone to come around and have a look. But there are so many people out there, I just don't know who's fair game and who's a sham. How did you find yours? I've seen your posts around for a while, and I really wish you all the best and hope you will have good news soon.

In the meantime, lots of baby dust to each and everyone of you!!!

Gemma

I just got my AF yesterday :( what a big disappointment!! Tmr I will go and get my FSH tested, last month when i was in hk, i had all the relevant tests and seemed like all my hormones levels were within range. I guess my next step is IUI, and I just can't imagine what I have to go through.

Gemma, which doctor are you seeing? I'd like to know more about the procedure and was thinking whether I should just go straight onto IVF.

Hi hkiegal

Sorry to hear about AF :( Big hug to you. I see Philip Ho in Central.

IUI is not a huge deal. I am on injectibles to stimulate my follicles, although some people go on oral meds like Clomid. From day 2, I gave myself injections every night over my tummy (like an insect bite, not bad at all). I go back regularly to have my follicles monitored (you don't want too many otherwise you risk having multiples) and on day 12 I had a trigger HCG shot. 36 hours later I had the IUI procedure which involves delivering the "goods" into the cervix via a thin catheter. That was a bit uncomfortable, a bit like a pap smear.

And now we wait, which for me, is the worst part. I try not to think about it. A bit like if I don't get my hopes up then the disappointment might not be as bad. The fact that I am here means I am not very good at not thinking about it though haha!

If I were you, I would go see someone now and see what options there are. Has your hubby had his sperm checked? That could influence whether IUI or IVF is the way to go too.

Good luck hkiegal, let us know how you go.

xx
Gemma

Thanks for replying Gemma!

Hubby had SA in June, and result was low sperm count. :( guess that didn't help!

I was seeing Dr Christine Choy when I was last back, asked about the costs for both IUI and IVF, 20,000 and 100,000 respectively. That is really quite expensive, and on top of that, I also need to be in HK for 3 weeks continuously. How much does Dr Ho charge?

Gemma, are you going to wait a while before another IUI treatment?

Good luck to all of us .........:)
Baby Dust to us all!!

Hi hkiegal

You're right, unfortunately it's quite costly, but probably a bit less than 20k though. You'd need scans regularly but I wouldn't have thought you need to stay in HK continously for 3 weeks. His nurse Kelly is lovely, you could call his office and ask about prices and whether he treats people who are out of town.

I am keeping my fingers crossed as I am in my 2ww :) In general, if a cycle of IUI fails and AF arrives, as long as you don't have any residual cysts on day 2, it's OK to get kicking with another cycle. If you hubby has a low sperm count and you are 39, it is possible someone may suggest you to go straight to IVF.

Hello ladies, I was in a very similar position when I first came to HK. I had just moved, had had 6-7 rounds of IUI's with and without Clomid, one failed IVF, then had another round of failed IVF. I was 37 and getting paranoid. I was so emotionally distraught over those 3 years that we had made up our minds to adopt but I decided to give IVF one last chance after I took a long break. I did conceive naturally during that time! So don't give up on having sex normally too. I have conceived again to our complete surprise.

Since you guys are already doing so much, I would also very highly recommend a book called "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Her book was most helpful in understanding cycles. Per Ovulation kits, I never ovulated but this book somehow lifted all kinds of misinformation I always thought true. First time, I charted per her instructions for 4-5 months (7 cycles for me). Second time, it took me one cycle. Give her book a shot.
Wishing you all the very best.

Got my FSH test done and results came back this time as normal. Will take all the tests I have done for the last 2 months to the specialist tmr and seek advice.

Gemma, how are you doing? Which day are you on in this cycle? Good luck and stay positive!!

Thanks hkiegal. Unfortunately this wasn't my month - again. The 2ww went by so unbearably slowly, and when I got the news that the B-HCG is negative I was just crushed, although I kinda expected it because I really did not have any symptoms whatsoever. Last night hubby took me out to a nice dinner, even had some wine and then just dug into a tub of chocolate icecream. I was so depressed today, couldn't muster up any energy at work, just wanted to come home and curl up in a ball.

How did you specialist appt go? Did he/she suggest any plans?

Let's hope I'll be able to start IUI#2 soon, fingers crossed!!! :)

Hi Ladies, just stumbled on this thread here and was hoping to join in for moral support! I think this whole baby process is much easier when you have people to chat with about it!

Anyway, moved to HK with the husband in November of '08, became pregnant sometime in that same month, miscarried at 9 weeks and had D & C in late Jan. :( Period came exactly 30 days later.. Since then I waited the 3 months so started trying again in May.. Period were very regular, no issues etc (has alwasy been regular for last 5 years) .. then in June my period just stopped coming.. still waiting for it.. and its Sept. Had blood work done, the whole nine yards.. Doctor said ovaries look polycystic but doesn't think its quite PCOS.. I also started training for a marathon and work got really stressful around June so I am wondering if that stopped it.? Anyway its hard to track ovulation or anything, since I dont have any idea EVER!! Just sort of frustrated since I can't figure it out.. Dont want to start on any meds yet, although that herbal remedy that someone mentioned sounded interesting?? Also, anyone heard of Vitex??

Looking forward to meeting all you ladies.. and of course best of luck to everyone. :)

Gemma, sorry to hear ur news....:( fingers crossed for you!

A little update about myself, I am now seeing a doctor in Singapore, as I am there almost every other week, the dr ordered a procedure called Hysterosalpingograpy, (such a big word!) bascially an x-ray on my tubes to see if they are blocked, left tube was normal but the right one was not so good. Doctor didn't think it would have much impact though. He prescibed me with Clomid to take on day 2, for 5days only for my next cycle, for the IUI treatment. Then I go back on Day 12 to check on the follicles, this is the part i am quite confused. I thought I needed to be in the clinic every other day to see if the medicines are taking effect. Anyway, I think I will give the next cycle a try, and if it didn't happen, then I will definitely change to another doctor in singapore. I feel that my doctor is not that supportive, as he keeps telling me that AGE is our biggest issue,(he keeps on saying how everyone is delaying having children until they are in their mid-30's, and that people should stop pursuing career and have children first) which I know very well for a fact but that was the reason why I was there asking for his help and advice!!

DH had SA there, and now with the sperm count improved, we discovered his morphology level is way below average....what a bummer!! :(

Good luck to us all!!

I'm still trying naturally this month, and it's my Day 18 today, we BD 3 times in the last 4 days. Keep my fingers crossed that it's our lucky month this time!!

Gemma, u charting your cycle this month? Which day are u now? If you don't mind me asking, how old are both u and hubby? Any fertility issue?

:) I know we will get there!!

It's day 20, the last couple of days, been having cramps on my lower left side, but isn't it too early to get PMS?

Gemma, coolgirl, MayC and TTC#2, how are you girls doing this month?

Lots of baby dust!!

Hi ladies

Thanks for all your kind thoughts, and to you coolgirl, I try to keep my hopes up, have my good and bad days. How are you going hkiegal? How are those cramps going? Any news? :)

I'm 34, hubby does not have any issues, all my tests have come back fine, including the HSG so we have unexplained infertility. It's really frustrating. I haven't had a lap so it is possible I have endo and just don't know about it, although I don't have that much pain with my periods.

Couldn't start IUI#2 because I had leftover cysts in one of my ovaries. Apparently 5-10% of women get them after stimulation. And I just happen to fall in that category. You'd think I should go and buy a lottery ticket. :(

So I guess we'd have to try the natural way this month, which is always fun :) Today is day 11 so we had better get cracking haha! For my first stimulation, I visited my doctor on Day 2, Day 9 (to see how the follicles are coming along) and Day 14 to have the iui.

Good luck MayC. I suppose now is probably a good time to buy property anyway, before the market gets too crazy.

Thinking of all of you. xxx How is everyone else coming along?

I still feel the cramps, and seemed to notice a little spotting last week, but I haven't tested yet, as the disappointment of seeing a negative is quite upsetting......:(

It is day 25 today, so if I don't get AF by end of this week, I will test. Fingers crossed that this is the month!!

Gemma, lots of action for the next couple of days.......enjoy the trying part, it is super fun!!

Keep us posted!!

I tested yesterday, and it was negative.........:( so looks like I will be onto IUI treatment next month.

Thinking of all of you and wondering how you are all doing...

Hope someone will post good news here soon!!

Hey girlies

How's everyone going? Went for U/S and thankfully the ovarian cysts have gone so I am starting injections again for IUI#2. The novelty of the injections have gone, and somehow they are hurting just a little bit more this time haha.

My mental goal this month - I am going to really try not to focus on it, as I am so very tired of thinking about it all the time.

Keep on with the faith girls!
