Smear Testing

Hi All!I need to get a smear test done and I am confused as to where I should go for this - Doctors/Hospital/Specialist?* Anyone out there help me on this one? :flower:

i have only gone to Gynocologists for those. cos i think it's better to go to a specialist, cos they're more skilled & make me feel mroe comfortable (& less embarrassed). if you don't have one to go, then you can try Family Planning Ass. They have clinics all over town, and they're very experienced.

you can also get them done at gov't maternal/women's health clinics. they cost $100 (not great bedside manner but private cost can reach to $1000!!!)

it is more like so routine...
here.
lie down.
spread 'em.
done.
bye.

not that i want an in-depth conversation while it's being done. i think it took about 10 minutes from the time i entered the clinic, until i walked out. that included 5 minutes filling in paper work.

you mean an ultra-sound? or a mamogram? (are they different?)

i would call tsan yuk, they are a "women's hospital" not just ante-natal, from my understanding.

if you're going for private, they have a very reputable breast clinic at the HK Sanatorium. but then you know the reputation of HK Sanotorium in general......

i went to one breast specialist before, her name is Wong Ting Ting. She's very nice. you can call HK Sanatorium Breast Clinic & ask for her clinic no. her clinic was above Sogo when i went several years ago.

ultra-sound is different than a sonogram.

an ultra sound is like what we have when we're pregnant to see the baby. a had a breast ultrasound several yrs ago when i suddenly had a painful lump in my breast.

(the painful lump turned out to be an "abscess" they call it in western medicine. and i was suppose to take anti-biotics & had them drill a hole & remove the fluid. of course, i chose the more natural way - chinese herbs & it was gone after 2 weeks of medication. can u imagine? if i didn't believe in chinese medicine, i would have had somone drill a hole in my breast!!)

anyway. a sonogram is like an x-ray. where they press (yes, i heard it hurts like mad) your breast between 2 x-ray plates & take an x-ray of it. usually, it is recommend annually for women over 60. not recommended for those under, because what turns up as a dark spot on the x-ray could just be a normal cyst, which is extremely common in women below 60) i even read somewhere that 80% of breast autopsy because of sonogram turned out to be benign. in fact recent studies suggest that breast sonogram plays no significant part in preventing breast cancer. so a lot of breast specialist don't recommend it.

sorry about the long story, i just wanted to share my knowledge. i did a lot of research when i had that "abscess" thingy.

i thought that a sonogram and an ultrasound are the same.(ie) in the states, they say they are having a sonogram when they are pregnant to see the baby rather than an ultrasound.

that a MAMOGRAM was the xray thing...
