Oct Buddies Weekly Lunches

Friday lunch

Bets,

I am still hanging around like you...although my EDD isn't until this Sunday. Let me know the time and place (Mexican sounds good) and I'll do my very best to be there. Any change in the plan, you can send me a text.

Hey soon mummies !
I'm sorry I havent been on the forum or on the lunches for so long but I would love to have the opportunities to see the last women styanding befire the D day ;-)
Indian would be great for me on friday, I have a nice adresse on Elgin street (note that there is a stair to climb if it's ok for you) I go there quite often and always enjoy it.
Hope to see you then, I can book the venue tomorow morning. For how many?
Take care untill then, with a little luck we'll eat very spicy tomorow and it will speed thing up !!
Alexandra

Hi Ladies,

Can't join you as i have to rest. Enjoy your lunch. Alex, pls post where is that secret restaurant of yours at soho.

Eagerly waiting for the first "real" october baby.:crib

Bets, How many weeks will you be on the 13th? i know you're in the same week as matty and mums_babes, right?

Hi Gidget,

The B/F is a complete disaster. Even with a midwife coming to see me each day trying to sort it , latch on just isn't happening. Joel is a lazy little sod that doesn't want to work too hard. I also have flat nipples which has made it harder.
I've been expressing and bottle feeding, but we are still trying.

The whole motherhood thing has been a bit of a shock to the system I'm sure you'd agree.

Look forward to catching up soon. I might even be game enough to venture to lunch on Friday with the little one!

Cheers,
Matty

Hi Ladies,

Was great to catch up on Tuesday and Matty you looked great. I don't think I'm going to look so good I'm kinda getting used to 10 hours sleep a night!

I won't be able to make it for lunch on Friday, Central feels as though it is getting further and further away for me! Also I don't want any spicy food to be speeding things along, I want to wait until the 13th....so we could be the same days Bets!!!

Enjoy lunch and we are still waiting for the first October baby...CK you are in the running too now.

Well, no sign of any movement here on the baby front. Doctor says the earliest he'll do anything is on 15th...so it looks like I might be the last one to 'pop'! Boo, hoo!

See you tomorrow...let me know the time and venue, please.

CK

OK, so for lunch tomorrow let's do Mexican... 12:45 @ I Caramba, 26-30 Elgin Street in Soho. Their seats aren't that comfortable, but we can change venues for dessert (perhaps Portobello's on Staunton).

So far I have CK, Bets and Alex, anyone else?

Alex, I am having a curry at home tonight and don't think I can handle it for two meals in a row. Looking forward to seeing you again. I'd love to try your secret restaurant too!

MamaS - I'll be at the end of 41 weeks on the 13th. EDD was 2 October.

Looking forward to tomorrow ladies!

I have a mid wife appointment today at 1 so can't pop down, but if there is anyone around NEXT week still, would love to catch up.
Am eagerly awaiting all of your texts girls, to see who goes next!!

Matty, I am so sorry about the BF, how gutting for you. I tell you what, I was expecting to be laid up with the pain from my C sec, I didn't even notice that with the engorgement pain, my breasts started sprouting out from under my arm pits, which was a bit alarming!!
Max and I seem to be getting on top of things now, but I have had some bloody nipples for my efforts.
Kudos to you for persevering.

Hey ladies,

I'm so sorry but I wont be able to come for lunch today as I havent slept for all night: Sasha has been sick, I still cant figure what's happening to him but I can tell you that one shower isn't enought to get the vomit smell out of my hair, bouhouuuuu... After that I had some quite painful and longs contractions so the doctor asked me to keep it calm for few days (I'm only 23 weeks)

mamaS, Bets, the indian I wanted to show you is
INDIA TODAY 26-30 Elgin Street (1rst floor)
Tel: 28.01.59.59
I've been going there since I arrived in HK the staff is lovely and you can eat for quite cheap some good Indian (not as good than at my neighbourghs from Delhi but since, I like it a lot !)

Matty, I'm so sorry that your BF isnt going on well but you seem very brave, I think I wouldnt be as brave as you are... Is Joel enjoying the formula? Maybe you could stick to it if you are tired, I remember the "ugly" symptomns when I was BF: bleading nipples, very sensitive, painful breast, I enjoyed BF Sasha but I'm not sure I'll do it again, havent made up my mind yet...
In either case, good luck & I hope to join you very very soon for lunch or teat or a walk in the park with babs.

Alex

Hi Alex, Thanks for the tip, i'll go there later. My fave is the Nepalese restaurant, not so spicy.

Hey Bets, yes, eat curry, do some dancing, and walk a lot ;-) It might help for baby to come out sooner.

So, nobody has been successful in exclusive BF yet? Maybe xox?

Keep in touch, ladies. I have braxton hicks or contraction now, but not so regular yet. And i can't sleep at night now bec. of hiccup or baby kicking. Anyone has this too?

Hi everyone,

Anyone left for lunch this friday?
Love to see you all after so many months...
Congratulations everyone who's come before me!

Hello ladies,

Baby Zac was born on 6 Oct and weighed 3.56 kg. See pics:http://web.mac.com/spurrells/iWeb/Media/Photos.html

glad to see you are all still doing lunches so soon after babies being born.

look forward to catching up in a few weeks, not brave enough to come out with him yet. Matty-sorry to heat BF is not going well. Keep trying, expressing takes ages and that really calls for patience. I am introducing breast milk in a bottle to allow my hubbie to feed at night. Will see how it goes.

good luck Celtic Kiwi :-)

see you all soon.

Rhianna is here!

Hi Girls!

Rhianna Erin was born at 12.29am on Sunday 15th October, weighing in at 3.645kg and measuring 51cm (thank God for epidurals!!)

We're both doing great and bf seems to be going well....fingers crossed!

Photos to come soon.

hi mamaS,
i am Bf exclusively and has been going well so far, it is really hard work though as gotta feed every 3 hours and don't have enough to pump out a full feed in one go.
hopefully more milk will come in in week 2/3 and will be able to hand baby over to partner for 3 am feed :-)

Sounds like me expressing and not BFing is a bit of a blessing! I have loads of milk and it only takes 15 mins to empty a breast, (electric pump) which is usually more than a feed. Joel sucks 90mls out of the bottle in 5-10mins which kind of makes me thankful they aren't my nipples in his mouth.
And my hubby has been doing the 3am feed, and my mum the 6am.

There is always a brightside! though haven't completely given up on breastfeeding, and the lactation consultant is still trying her hardest.

Can' t wait to catch up and swap stories.

Hi Mama S. Yep, I'm exclusively breast feeding too.

Matty you are SO right that expressing is much easier on the nipples! Max is like a bulldog at mine, I am only just now getting to the stage where my toes don't curl up every time I do a feed!
You are a trooper sticking at giving the BF a go, hope that it works out for you.

I wanted to wait until my BF was established before feeding expressed with the bottle, so we are having our first try at it today. I'm hoping that I haven't left it TOO late and have him refusing the bottle / nipple confusion etc. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly. Mind you he's such a guts he probably won't care!!

I am attempting my first lunch out with a friend this Friday. Anyone else getting to the stage where they are ready to venture out? I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again, to share 'war stories'!!

Hi Ladies. How 'bout that engorgment stuff... that was interesting to say the least.

I too have had to turn to expressing, at least temporarily. One of my breastfeeding books uses the term 'barracuda' to describe some babies eating styles... I've got one of them on my hands. This 9 pounder can eat! 100ml every 3 hours or so. Because of my fair skin my nipples are much more sensitive than most ... and in turn they have taken a significant beating (bloody yuckiness). We called Annerly and they first advised to change positions and then to express to give the poor things a break. I am on my fourth day of pumping and bottle feeding and am finally starting to heal. I have to admit that bottle feeding is not such a bad thing... it is so efficient (even with a hand pump). I hope that we don't create nipple confusion, but we have to take one day and one hurdle at a time.

On a lighter note... does anyone feel brave enough to meet for a cup of coffee this week? Pacific Coffee on Hollywood/Lyndhurst Terrace has some nice wing-back chairs and a nice private corner in the back.

Cheers.

Bets,

I have to see a Chiro to get a bad hip sorted out this week...long story! But I know Matty and Heidypie are keen to meet up too. I will send a text out as soon as I know when my appointments are. Ok? Could do with a good chat with people who know what a new Mum goes through.

CK

hi all,

yes bf is a a big challenge but have found it to vbecome easier as the weeks go by. I started experessing too early (after day 7) and thought i'd only get 20ml each time but have since discovered the milk just starts flowing like a fountain when you get into regular feeds, every 2-3 hours. I find that expressing while baby is on the other boob really helps the stuff to flow, it must be related to stimulation. You also save time :-) It take a bit of organising and manging but i have my handy pump right by my bedside and do it twice a day, morning and night.
Love the fact that i can hand baby over to dad at 7am feed from bottle.

I am up for coffe/juice this friday at pacific place. Is anyone thinking of bringing bub as i might leave mine at home with mum?
see you all soon,
Heidypie

Can't do this Friday, as H is back from Australia after being away all week, but otherwise am ready for coffee / lunch etc.

Max and I met a friend out last Friday and we managed the screaming baby, breast feeding and exploding poop in the restaurant, so I'm now game for anything!!

Bet's I hear you loud and clear on the engorgement. My breasts went square and started exploding out from under my armpits. I was still in hospital, so stayed in bed wrapped up in cabbage leaves like a kim chee and wept for those days!! I call Max the 'bull dog' with his latch!! It does get better though, and I am finally at the stage where I don't curl my toes each feed!

CK sorry to hear about hip, sounds a bit horrid.

See you all soon.
