Wonderful seeing everyone yesterday. What a great group!

I just wanted to follow up on the book I mentioned about bringing up your child with two languages. The title of the book is:
Growing Up With Two Languages - A Practical Guide
By Una Cunningham-Andersson and Staffan Andersson
ISBN 0415333326

It is a small book, easy to read and full of a lot of insight directly from parents and their experiences. It gives some practical advice and the different scenarios that worked/and didn't work for different families.

I would think the book stores here would be able to get it if they don't already have it. I purchased it from Waterstones in Europe, and I put in an inquiry at Dymock's here to see if they carry it.

If anyone else has heard of any good information regarding bringing a child up multilingually, please share.

Looking forward to our next luncheon.

Annie

10 pregnant women yesterday! Wasn't that FUN! I very much enjoyed it and look forward to our next gathering in 2 weeks time at Grappas!

OK my due stats:
Initially expected due date: Nov 20th
Then found out we're having twin girls
Doc has proposed 36~37 weeks
which means end-Oct/beg-Nov

Woooohooooo! What's everyone elses due dates?

Hi ladies,

It was really great to meet you all, I had a fabulous time. Can't wait for our next gathering !

It was a lot of names for me to remember though ... am generally not that good with names, but now the pregnancy brain is not helping. Can you help me put a name on a face by sending a quick message and sign with your real name and maybe your due date so we keep track of this too ??? hope you don't mind !

thanks a lot !

Amelie (Frenchie YogaKids teacher - exp. Nov 17th)

I too had fun meeting the new comers at lunch. We have a contact list for the group via email. I gave my biz card to all the newbies yesterday, so send me an email with your contact details, login name etc and I will email an updated list to everyone. I will try my best to note who's who's on the list.

Hello!

I was sitting between Amelie and Rach and across from Nazima...

My due date is November 18th (38 weeks) and am expecting identical twin boys.

Thanks for putting a list together SFGal!

Annie

thanks SFGal for offering to update a 'real names'/contacts list, that would be really useful for everyone. lunch was fun (chocolate pudding was divine...), looking forward to the next (thanks for booking Rach).

p.s. Amelie, i was sat next to you on your right, at end of table! :o)

Hi everyone

Had a fab time at lunch and looking forward to the next one. Its always good to have other moms-to-be to chat with!

SF gal, hope your house hunting is going well. My due date is 15th Nov and expecting another boy!

Amelie, sorry I didnt get a chance to chat to u much but hopefully next time! Your mandarin puts me to absolute shame! I am the only mom w bub in tow.

And Annie thanks for the book recommendation. Am trying to bring up my kid bilingually(at least) and am mixing languages all the time which I am sure confuses him greatly. Will check out the book u recommended. Should be able to get it thru Amazon.

Look forward to the next luncheon!

Stephanie

breastfeeding - grouped appointment

Hi ladies,

It was mentioned during our last lunch that some of us would be interested in learning more about breastfeeding and possibly do a group class with Lactation Consultant Mrs Chee. She was recommended to me by 2 new mums who had trouble breastfeeding at the beginning and thought Ms Chee was a great help.

My idea was to meet with her for a consultation/class so to get more specific info on the subject but also get to know each other in case i need her help after the baby is born.

She generally charges 450$ for a 2 hour class but said she would give us a discount (400$) for a group.

If you are interested, please get back to me, i am happy to organise this.
Her office is in Wanchai, so maybe we could have lunch together and then do the class after ?? How about next Tuesday since we already have lunch scheduled in Pacific Place ? From 3-5pm ??

Looking forward to hear from you.

Amelie

Hi,
I'm an Australian and a first time mom, due at the end of November. Would like to meet other moms to be for a chat / coffee, maybe in Central somewhere. Hope to hear from other moms soon ...

Hello Lilly! Welcome and Congrats! It is always nice to have more moms-to-be to talk to.

Amelie,

Tuesday works for me. I think it would be great to talk to Mrs. Chee.

Stephanie, Dymocks also said they can order it. It would take 3-4 weeks (maybe Amazon is faster?!) But, here is their reply:

Dear customer, Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately, we do not have this book in stock at the moment. However, we are able to order this book for you from our overseas suppliers.

Book details:
Title: Growing Up With Two Languages
Author: Andersson
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 0415333326
Price HK$325

Shipment will take approximately 3-4 weeks.

Wish I could join in on the breastfeeding class but now I'm not sure if I can make the lunch next Tuesday. I have friends arriving into Hong Kong that morning and I will check with them that morning if they want to go shopping while I join you guys for the lunch. I don't think I can stay on afterwards for the class though. Sorry to miss it.

Amelie, I'll let you know on Tuesday - these days sitting for a couple of hours is enough for me so I may not be able to make it that day for TWO activities.... boo hooo...
