Hey everyone!
My name is Christina... my husband, our 2 & 1/2 yr old son & I just moved to Hong Kong from NYC a couple of weeks ago... my husband works crazy hours and the boredom is starting to sink in a tad. ....especially since I don't know anyone here!

im looking for friends in a similar situation... moms that are interested in play dates or just getting together to do girly stuff....or just bum around. Im very easy-gong and just want to to hang out and make long-lasting friendships.

were in a serviced apartment right now on wellington street...(Central HK) but will be moving into our new apartment next month which is very close to the IFC mall/pacific place.

A little about me: im 31yrs old, of Greek decent.....taught 1st grade in NYC for 7yrs - (at a public school in the South Bronx.) Lived in NYC all my life.

Thanks for reading! =)

Hey! =) I really dont think theres any reason to be stressed. I was a little stressed before my son & i got here but everything seems to fall into place once youre here. I really think the hardest part is finding friends...especially if you have zero acquaintances here - (thats my situation.) the company that hired my husband had a counseling service that basically answered all of our questions and gave us recommendations for apartments, etc. I dont know if your husband's company has tihat as well.
There are expats everywhere....i heard that there are more in places like stanley. it really depends what youre looking for and what you want your experience here to be like. Personally I prefer to live in central and be close to everything instead of living further away and not being able to be within walking distance to all the shops and local places. location was really important to me. I can recommend a really good broker, if you want. he was extremely organized and provided us with tons of info that really helped us make a decison as far as finding the right apt for us.

Hi All, I'm a bit far from central, we are staying in Tai Koo, but interested in joining any playgroup or hosting anyone willing to come out this way. We are just on top of the MTR. my daughter is 2y8m and I'm actually about to post a separate thread for a playgroup, feel free to join up.

Hi All,

Not sure if you ended up meeting but I am definitely interested in meeting up. I'm not in Central, I'm in Causeway Bay but I'm fine getting the MTR over. Let me know if anyone wants to meet. My son is 2 years and 9 months old. I am from the UK and have been in HK only 1 week, but starting to feel the need for adult company already, a week talking to only a 2 year old during the day is draining!!

hi christina!

my name's chris (short for christine), my husband and our 1 year old son just moved to HK almost a month ago from san diego, CA. we're staying in a service apartment in central as well off of peel st. we're also about to move into our "new home" in mid-levels west in about a week (robinson rd., so we can still walk in to soho). i feel what you're saying! trips to local parks, wet markets and the zoo have helped to curb my mood swings about adjusting to life here. that said, i'm definitely ready to meet some other mama's...and am not having as easy of a time doing it as i read about! maybe i'm not putting myself out there enough? i'm 31 too and think it'd be great to meet up. thanks for your post!

Hi Chris, Christina & Mamaber (& anyone else who fancies it)

I don't know if your interested but I started going to the Toy Library at Causeway Bay Public Library. Its free, you just need to reserve your place, they have it on every day, pretty much all day and you get a 45 min session. They have some toys out and then loads of toys available to borrow for the session, you can borrow up to 2 toys, but 1 at a time. They have lots of catalogues to look through and decide which toy you want which I found too much the first time I went so I just said - do you have a train set.

So if your all up for it we could arrange to meet there one day. Christina I know you aren't free next week so maybe we could arrange to meet there the week after? You can book up to 7 days in advance. Their telephone no. is 2921 0386. So how about I suggest Monday the 21st at 11am? If your all good with this then we all need to call next Tues morning to book.

Let me know
x

hi cathryn (and gang!),

the toy library sounds great. i've actually read about it in a guidebook, it'll be neat to venture out and visit a new place. thanks for including me in the acitivity. as a newbie to getting around HK, which mode of transit to you recommend using/prefer? please keep me included in the loop. looking forward to meeting all of you and your little ones!

Hi Chris - if you plan on taking the mtr to the central library and you'll be bringing the stroller, I suggest you exit at causeway bay sogo as there is a lift to exit to ground level, and then there's a bit more walking towards Victoria park, and then cross the bridge at causeway road to get to the library.

Good advice mamaber, the lift at sogo is the usual exit/entrance i use. I dont know about buses the come here yet. I'm also very new to HK - only been here 2 weeks now.

thanks for the navigational advice mama's! (i may try the mtr or taxi, the buses seem a bit out of my comfort zone so far). i'll probably be ergo-ing my little guy. seems more reliant than a stroller, though i do feel like a sweaty mess all the time..i'll really be a sight to see in summer :) wow, cathryn welcome to HK! today officially marked our first month of being here. we're more than ready to move into our new "home" this friday. a month of hotel living gets old real quick. whereabouts do you all live?
