How to avoid stretch marks?

Hello,
Which products / oils are the best to avoid stretch marks? What are your experiences?
Thank you very much!

Honestly, I don't think there is any way to prevent them. Some people are lucky and don't get them, and some people aren't so lucky and do. It has to do with how good of shape your body is in and the elasticity of the skin. So if you want to avoid them, honestly I would say drink tons of water, get fit and toned, and that's about it. Lotion isn't going to do a thing.

But that's my opinion. I have no medical basis to back it up.

I used olive oil. Got very faint stretch marks that have almost faded away now. But olive oil will darken your skin (I didnt know that!). But the darkness fades too. My skin is back to its normal colour now.
My mother has terrible stretch marks.
My sister, who didnt use any oil, has terrible stretch marks too.
My other sis, who used vitamin e oil, has no stretch marks at all.
I think its a good idea to use some oil to help prevent them (especially if you are genetically predisposed to them).

I use Mustela 9 months cream with my first pregnancy and I didn't have any stretch marks. For some reason, I cannot stand the smell of it this time around. I just use normal body lotion on my body after a bath.

I also read that it's important to drink a LOT of water to keep your skin well hydrated - this will help prevent stretch marks. Otherwise, it's mainly genetic. Though the stretch mark oils help with itching as your skin stretches so they are worth using anyway.

i think keeping your skin saturated with body cream is a must whilst the skin on your belly is stretching beyond our widest dreams. though there is NO medical proof that creams help, i personally think it does. i used mustela 9 months starting at 3 months. i have no stretch marks. it wasn't even itchy if i put the cream after bath, before bed & upon awake. when i put the cream, i talk to my baby, and tell her that's it's mummy giving her a massage. i also put bath oil while bathing & talk to baby when i put the bath oil. i still miss those days when i put the oil on & talk to my baby in my tummy.

Thank you all - where can I buy the mustela cream and what kind of brand is it?
By the way, my doctor said that if I want a bath - just a quick and not too hot one. Otherwise it is not good for the baby...

In my experience I did not get one single stretch mark, but neither did my mom or sister, so I think it is all genetics. I did use body butter from the body shop occasionally, when my skin was itchy.

I think the best way to avoid stretch marks is to choose your parents wisely!!! (genetics)

The next best way is to avoid gaining too much weight. Stay active and don't think "I'm pregnant so I can have extra chocolate."

I don't think lotions make any difference. It can be kind of nice to massage your bump with the lotions or oils though! Staying well hydrated can't do any harm.

Avoiding stretchmarks - oil

I can recommend Clarins oil called Huillle "Tonic" Body Treatment Oil. I found many recommendations for it on the internet during my first pregnancy. See Clarins website:
http://uk.clarins.com/main.cfm?prodID=65
I think I got through 3 bottles last time, with daily use (I also used it after pregnancy for a couple of months). I had no visible stretch marks and my skin felt fabulous.
I think it is cheapest from Bonjour stores here.

Of course this is a bit of a treat for yourself compared to using olive oil, say; but Clarins oil smells wonderful and lets face it, you need pampering when pregnant!

I heard from two people so far that Clarins has a very effective product against stretch marks. Haven't tried it out, as I'm still using my oil (from a pharmacy abroad), but will definitely check it out when my bottle of oil is finished! I just suspect that a Clarins product might not be too cheap..:baby:
