Due September 2009

Hi ladies and congrats to u all,

Count me in too:)
I'm due for September but really not sure how things work in Hong Kong....I mean the advance booking in hospitals, which hosp. to choose etc. etc.

Little lamb, cud u tell me how is this Tsan Yuk hospital and does this mean you're getting your check up done by a private doctor simultaneously?

I've been rumbled! I went out for Birthday drinks last night. I have told one close friend so far and I guessed that my other friends suspected but were respecting my silence (it's out of character for me not to drink on my birthday....detox or not!). One friend totally outed me in a very public way which made me super uncomfortable. I wasn't about to deny and I didn't have any quick answers so it's just clear to all from my red facedness! I'm so annoyed at this girl today (hormones not withstanding!!!). Perhaps she just didn't think that there's a reason she's still in the dark! I've had spotting for the last 3-4 weeks and while everything seems to be progressing well, I'm obviously very worried about the possibility of miscarriage still. My friend that knows can't really understand my fears (never been pregnant). Plus, today I have a sore throat! I'm worried about seeing my doctor because he's a serial over-medicator, from past experience. Maybe I'll wait it out for a day first.

There we have it...rant over! Only 3 weeks until that magical second trimester when life should get a little less complicated!

Oh Goodbye Kitty that's not nice of your friend to do that to you in public. I am pretty sure that 2 of my friends know, but both having been pregnant before so are not saying anything which is nice.

I had a sore throat a couple of weeks ago (I get them all the time) and I decided not to go to the docs as I knew it wasn't an infection. I just made sure I kept an eye on my temperature, and it went away in a couple of days. Maybe ask your doc if medication is really necessary or if you can try natural remedies.

I also can not wait for these last three weeks to hurry up and be over!!

Take care

Had my scan yesterday and all well. I am 9 weeks and my EDD is 13 September. So many of us a due so close together - how great is that!

Welcome hk-mum! It sounds like firstly you need to decide whether you will be delivering in the public or private hospital. I am delivering in the public at the Queen Mary but you need to go to Tsan Yuk for resigtration and the antenatal check ups. I am also seeing a private dr for appts at the same time and this practice is very common in HK.

xx

That's exactly what I am doing too. The QM only give you one scan at 20 weeks, so if you want an earlier one and testing for Downs Syndrome etc then you will need to see a private OBY GN.

13th Sept is two days after me, although I am going to try and cross my legs on the 11th so it comes on a different day!

Hi Ladies, Congratulations to you all!

I have posted a thread on July - September due dates I recieved a reply saying that there are not many due dates in August and that I should join the July or September Forum. I am a little confused I thought it was one forum for all mommies to be from July -september 09. Would be great to hear back from any of you as I am 13 weeks pregnant in my first pregnancy and looking to meet some mommies to be. Hope to hear back form you soon! Thank You
Nerina

Thanks Little Lamb. Being first time preggie and new to HK, everything sounds so new and confusing right now.

Living in the Kowloon side, I'm seeing a pvt. doc in TST as it seems more convenient than Central due to my immense nausea. But I'm really not too impressed by her and am looking for more docs in this region. I'm planning to decide the doc thereafter but hope it doesn't get too late for a registration till then.

Any idea by when the hospitals start accepting bookings and what's the best time to do so?

Hi. I too have a Sept due date and am waiting until next week and the Drs all-clear before sharing the news. Would love to connect with other mums-to-be in HK. I've been seeing Dr. Doo, who is fantastic: easy to talk to, tremendously helpful, answers all questions. Congratulations on your pregnancy and look forward to chatting soon!

Hi, you should speak to CindyB as I think she is with Dr Doo also.

Hi 1stBabyHK, welcome to this forum!

I am having my first appointment with Dr. Doo tomorrow. I am curious how it goes. Will update you all afterwards.

Daisygirl, it was nice meeting you yesterday. Where did you post the contacts of your Gyn? I couldn't find anything in the doctors' contact list. Thanks!

I am seeing Dr. Patrick Chan. He is based in Central and is very kind and thorough which is exactly what I was after. The nurses are lovely too and they don't overbook appointments so no waiting so far which is great especially when you are feeling very nauseous.

Disappointed I couldn't make lunch yesterday but looking forward to meeting you all very soon.

Hi all,

I'm due in June with my first child. I know I'm a bit out of territory here, hope you don't mind the intrusion but I'm new to HK as well and keen to meet some new people. It would be great to meet you all at your next get together if that's ok? I'm not working and live in Central so anywhere, anytime is good for me!!
Cheers

No problem at all Roslyn. We'll organise another lunch soon, feel free to come along - you can tell us all what to expect as you are a bit ahead of us!

Hi Ladies

What a relief to have found this forum!.

I just have been in HK 5 days having just moved from Dubai - new to HK and new to being pregnant! I was told before I left Dubai that I was due at the end of Sept (she said I was 5 wks and 3 days).

I guess I must be 8wks tomorrow and that i wait till I am 12weeks before I go for a scan cause at 5 weeks it was too early for a hearbeat although she did give me a print out of a black rice grain and said it was in the right place??

We are currently in a serviced apartment in Central, Sheung Wan and I am actively searching for a place to live.
My husbands job brought us here and I was planning to work but with this BIG suprise a few weeks ago, I am not sure that will happen.

I am 34yrs, from England and this is our first baby. I would love to meet up during the day or evenings. Just got a HK SIM yesterday.

It has been great reading all the comments and has made me feel much more happier!

Welcome Oryx and congratulations on your surprise!!

I hope that you are settling in well to HK. The main geoexpat site was a lifesaver for me when I first got here, but I'm sure we'd all be happy to help you with any questions here too.

Are you planning to go private or public? If private, you may want to organise a consultation with your OB to organise booking the hospital (I hear they book very early - like 9 weeks preggo!).

Hi goodbye kitty

Thanks and Congrats too!. I hadn't really thought about whether to go private or public, seems so long away. I guess I better speak to my husband and see what is covered in our medical insurance. Guess I need to get an OB too!

Do you need to book the 12 week scan?

Hope to get to meet up with some of you too over lunch or dinner.
