Due Oct-Dec 08??

Congrats Bubbles!!! Isn't it just the most amazing feeling?!?!?

Smiles, I'm sure your hubby will start to feel it soon! Mine's been kicking me lots these past few days, getting stronger and stronger and, yesterday, my hubby managed to feel it with his hand on my belly for the first time!!!! It did take him several attempts though, cos, the first few times he put his hand on my belly (in the morning), the kicking stopped... :P It was only in the evening (for some reason, baby seemed to have gone crazy with his kicks!) that he finally felt it! I'm 22 weeks tomorrow! Argghhh!!

Ok - anetnatal classes I went to QMH and it was a total joke - i did not learn anything and do not feel reassured at all.

I am now booking my course at Annerley which is a bit more privey but I want to be prepared.

On another note which one of you ladies is giving birth at QMH??

Hey Kharel! Were you at the talk last Wednesday? I was there too!!! It was a bit of a joke... Well, the only thing is they will only let your husband be present at the birth if he's been to the antenatal talks with you (I think). Will you be doing the antenatal exercise classes there? Probably going to be just as informative as the talks but have to do at least the birth ball one in order to be allowed to use it in labour - not sure how useful the ball is but, worth keeping the options open!

Will sign up with Annerley but will do the hypnobirthing course instead - they said they pretty much cover the same stuff as "Babies and beyond" except for the pain relief part, obviously! Which course are you going to do? When?

Hypno-birth

It was good meeting everyone last night - so sorry about making you all trek to Kowloon (I thought there were more of us on the dark side!?)

I wanted to know more about the hypno-birth that someone mentioned last night - it sounded really good.

Cheers,
b

Purple flower yes i was at the talk last week, I am goign this week also but dragging a friend with me as my husband can not make it, he came last week though. Did you two have to sign something to say you both attended? We didnt so I'm wondering how they knnow if you have been or not?
I am also doing the hypno birthing - not decided on date yet but definitly with Annerley - shall we try and do them at the same time? It would be fun if we went together!!

Bubbles Annerley midwives do a great hypnobirthing course 5 sessions for 3400 HKD - take a look at the link below for more info on it all.

Hey Kharel,

You should have a little white card that was given to you at one of your first visits. Stapled on that, there's a little blue piece of paper, with a table all in Chinese - that's the card you're supposed to give them and they put a little stamp on if you turned up and if your hubby turned up. Did you register when you got there?

I'll be doing the exercise classes there tomorrow too.

Haven't booked for the hypnobirthing course yet, will do it soon. Most prob do one at the end of July. Would have prefered to do it earlier but the one before that starts in June and it clashes with some of our other appointments (I think with the exercise classes). Called them up and they have classes lined up for 30/7-27/8 (Monday lunchtimes) and 23/7-20/8 (Wednesday evenings). Most prob will do the Monday lunchtime cos they say they have fewer people for lunchtimes, hence get more time to practise/ask questions. What's your schedule like? Anyone else interested in these???

Purple flower no they did not give me the card - I am panicking a bit now that my husband will not be allowed into delivery room with me?? !! Is that really the case as he can not make tonight and so I was going to bring a friend...

male friend or female friend? (If male, he can act as hubby for the day!) :P

I've just checked the wad of leaflets they gave us at the first appt. It says "The accompanying person should attend the antenatal talks and exercise classes together with you". Did you register at the counter last time? I know the lady in front of me didn't bring her card either and they stamped another slip for her. Maybe what you should do today is to let them know that you didn't realise you had to register last time and see what they say?

I'll PM you my mob, you can give me a call when you get there?

Antenatal Class

Hi Everyone,
I've been looking into antenatal classes and am wondering if anyone has any input or suggestions on what to take and/or where to go.
What exactly should I be learning in antenatal classes? I suspect I need to learn quite a bit - from understanding how the hospitals here work, to getting through delivery, options for pain relief, as well as what to do with a baby (breastfeeding, sleeping, eating, etc, etc). I feel like I know very little about anything and have sort of been putting it off...
Any info would be much appreciated!
Oh, and it was really nice to meet everyone at dinner Monday night - looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Purple flower - I only just got your message!! I was there last night - you may have seen me, English girl wearing white cropped pants and a black top??

They stamped my card for this week and last week and next week my husband will also come so the nurse said this is ok.

Nino- whichever hospital you are registered too will provide this service so I would suggest you contact them and ask when the calsses start. If not then you can book a course with Annerley midvies who seem to be the best out here....

Haha! I really don't think I'd remember who wore what!! Sorry! Are you quite tall with short curly hair? Saw a tall English girl with another pregnant friend there... so thought maybe that was you?

Anyway, Nino, Annerley does private half hour sessions that you can book with them for them to go through the HK process. Have you booked a hospital yet?

Oh, Kharel, the ladies at Annerley did mention that they can provide a certificate to say that your husband attended antenatal classes there with you and it's supposedly good enough for QMH to allow your husband in. Haven't checked this out with the hospital staff so we didn't want to count on it....

Hey everyone,

I'm back from Europe - glad to see you guys had a great time at the dinner last week!!

I've been feeling the baby move now - at first (around 15-16 weeks), I wasn't quite sure of it, whether it was the baby or just my imagination - but the past couple of weeks, it's been getting much more strong, and I can feel definite kicks now!! So cool!! I'm 19 weeks now, and hubby is sooooo jealous that he can't feel the baby yet. I hope he can feel it soon!!

My tummy seems to have popped a bit - but that could be because on the cruise, I was having 3 course meals for lunch AND dinner, WITH snacks in between!! I ate SO much it's crazy... People are starting to notice my tummy now though. I haven't been on the MTR since I got back so who knows if they'll stand up for me yet ;) That's one milestone I can't wait to reach!!

I still need to register at Queen Mary - they said North Point is too far away for them so I sent myself some mail at my FIL's house in Mid-levels - I'll be "living" there... hopefully that's good enough proof of address for them!! I might try registering tomorrow...

I have my 20 week scan next week - I can't wait!! I haven't had an ultrasound since 13 weeks so I know the change will be amazing!!

Thanks for the suggestions - with some searching I found the classes on the Adventist website. They offer one class that covers almost everything I want to know (for now). May do some additional classes with Annerley but will see how this goes for now. Anyone else doing classes at Adventist? Does anyone have suggestions on when to do the classes? I keep thinking the sooner the better, just in case.
Thanks again!

I was told to take classes when you 28+weeks, if you do it too early you might forget everything (esp if you have a memory like mine) although I'm sure you could do something closer to the time as well.
I have a friend doing her classes at Adventist this month. I think they alternate between doing them in English and Cantonese each month.

I really should get organised as well

P.S we found out we're having a girl! Very excited, and by the looks of things already she is defniately going to be daddy's little girl!

Nicole - Welcome back.

Nino - I'm starting antenatal classes next week, but that's only 'coz I'm away slap bang in the middle of the next set of classes.

Smiles - Congrats on finding out you're having a girl.

Congrats smiles! And welcome back Nicole!!!

I've just booked my hypnobirthing classes at Annerley starting end of July - a little on the late side for my liking but the earlier one clashed with some other stuff I've got on.... Oh well, at least it'll be fresh in my mind!!! :P

now as the most of us are finding out the gender, we should meet for lunch in stanley and go baby stuff shopping afterwards...
congatulations smiles, we have a girl too, and daddy is sooo excited, raising his little princess :)
i am flying home tonight, hopefully the long flight will be ok...

Nina - Have a good flight - hope you don't feel too uncomfortable. I'm flying back to the UK in July for three weeks and when I fly back I'll be 32 weeks. Some of my friends think I'm mad to be flying at that stage as I'll be so uncomfortable, but my sister is having a baby in the next week or so and waiting until Christmas to meet my new neice or nephew is just tooooo long for me.

xx
