Due Date - March 2015

MrsMaow, Have you registered yet? It took me over an hour just to get booked in for my first check up.
HK Public system is not quite like the NHS....

Mei12 Welcome to the club! Roll on March 2015.

I am not sure yet. i talked to my OB and he said that we should take a tour of Queen Marry to see what it is like in order to decide. Has anyone done a tour or delivered at QM? What was their experience?

I delivered at QM. No bells & whistles, very production line. Stayed overnight and left ASAP.
Lactation support at the hospital wasn't great, recommend organising your own if you plan on breast feeding.
You also need to be rather forceful when asking for pain relief - I nearly didn't get an epidural, and I was on my own and in agony. If they do offer and you decline then thinking you'll get it later, there's a good chance you won't!

Oh goodness! Good to know. So was dad allowed to be with you the entire time? Do they speak English well? Would you do it again?

Hi Isabella,

I was admitted to the QM obstetrics ward for another procedure. I find that the staff are very knowledgeable, speak fluent English and quite kind. But the downside is long waiting times such as for scans, and my husband was not allowed into the ward with me. From what I've read, for deliveries, the husband is allowed into the delivery room, but not in the ward (which you'd be sharing with five or six others). Those who have delivered should be able to tell you more.

On another note, does anyone know if it'd be safe to travel in the first trimester? I'll be 11.5 weeks next week, and I'm thinking of taking a short 3.5-hour flight. My doc has said previously that it should be fine. But I have had two previous miscarriages, both in the first trimester, and I was wondering if flying could potentially exacerbate the condition, if any...

I delivered private hospital for my first, but went public for some follow up (my baby had jaundice). I found the lactation consultant at Pamela Youde to be really excellent so it really depends! I had first scan today and I'm due March 18:)

You should follow doctor's advice. Flying shouldn't affect your pregnancy at all though. I have done two short haul flights already since I found out I was pregnant. Hth!

Neither my husband or I are covered for maternity so it's a no brainer for us to go to Queen Mary for delivery. But for pre natal care and scans I'm going to the Woman's Clinic. My first appt at the designated clinic for QM is on 16 th Sep. I'm def looking for a lactation consultant because I hear QM can be quick to give bottle feed if the mother is having some trouble breast feeding, which can be quite common for first time mothers

We are looking for maybe taking a private room in Prince of Wales, I want to see what my experience is with my appointments first before we make the decision.

Hi Ladies

Im 8 weeks tomorrow, its my 2nd pregnancy but my first one was 6 years ago and feels like it passed by in a heartbeat and a blur.
Looking forward to sharing with you all

Hello everyone... i am 11 weeks pregnant and my EDD is 11th March. I am 9 months old in HK and very very confused about the private vs public delivery debate. Currently, i am seeing Dr Ghosh, but don't think i can afford a private hospital delivery. What is everybody else considering? Any suggestions and talk would be helpful. This is my second pregnancy and my first one was about 5 years ago... and i have a little girl already!!

If you have your HK ID card then I would say go public, might not have the same bedside manner as your home country but it is very affordable.

I'm not going to see any private doctors, despite it being my first pregnancy.

Hi PAC,
I know what you mean about the confusion on the systems here! I'm seeing a private Dr at the Women's clinic in central, but planning to deliver in public hospital.
Hoping that the mix will give me the pre-birth reassurance but without having to go private the whole way, crazy prices.

Hi there

I'm due in March and was wondering if anyone has been working out and what you all recommend? I have low motivation for excersise at the best of times so it's been a headache to start!

Let me know if anyone keen for walks up the peak or similar!

I've been going swimming, and I've found it to be great. Really stretched my muscles and got rid of some of my aches. Other than swimming I go for a 20 min walk at least once a week.

Listen to your body! If you really are fatigued, then you should rest. Otherwise, walking 20 minutes per day is probably a good idea. I am getting back into a regular yoga practice with some modifications this week since I practiced regularly before pregnancy. Looking forward to having more energy soon.

Hi everyone, my EDD is March 10. I swim 1-2 a week as my doctor recommended that it is best and for sure when we start getting heavier. In addition if my energy level allows me, I like to have a walk around the Peak. Not the hike up (which I loved to do), but that cirle around the Peak which takes approx. 45 minutes.

How's everyone doing? I'm counting down to the end of the first trimester - two more days to go to Week 13! Hoping it brings with it less nauseau/vomiting and more energy!
