Hi my name is Sophie, I have a one year old and am currently 3 months pregnant with my second!

I've just moved to Hong kong so am eager to meet up with any Moms or Moms to be who live in the Pok Fu Lam area? I live in Belair so if you live there even better!! x

look forward to hearing from you x

@Polly, thanks for your reply and the article you shared with me. I read through it, from what I checked, the ingredient for making Cantonese almond tea are Chinese almonds ( varies in two types : bitter almond and sweet almond), not as same as the type of almond in the article you showed me here.

FYI: http://blog.yam.com/homeeconomics/article/39330873 ( in Chinese)

http://m.wisegeek.org/what-are-almonds.htm ( in English)

And now we are talking about Cantonese traditional almond tea, the traditional recipe is a combination of two types Chinese almonds, because if considering the efficacy ,bitter almond is much better than sweet almond and can be used as medicine for easing coughing problems if you know the dose of it, but generally no more than 10g each time, otherwise the side effect could cause serious problem.
This is a link talking about bitter almond :http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-suppl...ientId=314&activeIngredientName=BITTER ALMOND

Sorry if I provide any wrong info here, but as we are all pregnant, better play it safer than sorry. The almond you take as a type of nut in daily diary is not the one been used for Cantonese almond tea, the almond fragrance/smell mainly comes from the bitter almond, that's why in the recipe it always contains bitter almond or bitter almond flavouring essence made from bitter almond. Perhaps the almond tea we are going to have tonight doesn't contain bitter almond at all, but still think it's worth of sharing this info with to-be-moms here. There are many things we don't know and we can share different opinions which would be a good way for everyone of us to learn more about the healthy food we eat and the interesting world we live in.

P.S Thank you for telling me that I can choose not to eat, otherwise if I left it untouched, I would feel guilty for a waste of food and the most important thing is not able to appreciate the chef's effort of preparing it. Almond tea used to be my favorite dessert, really nice. But now I guess I will follow the Chinese Drs' suggestion on food.

Hello all, can anyone advise on the best place to have nuchal translucency scan (including free Beta-hcg and papp-a blood test, combined test) in Hong Kong and about booking times?
I am supposed to move to HK right at the beginning of week 11... so I have to decide if postponing my departure and have this done in London or coming to HK and have it done there. Hard decision, because I don't know where I could do it! Thanks.

CoquinaHK, the mentioned tests will be recommended by the OB doctor once understand your medical history to see if there is a need, like you said either to have it done in London or HK but retain the copy for doctor reference.

12 weeks will be a milestone to have either the Oscar Test or the Nifty Test for the genetic disorder test.

How's everyone so far?

I had my 15 weeks 2 days OB visit, sign up some mother club's application and got a huge bag with sundries item like pregnancy milk, baby cloth and the baby blanket.

Baby is fine, 15 cm by length and happy growing, everything steady and will wait for the next visit in 5 weeks time.

I have brought up the Placenta Encapsulation to doctor, doctor agree to sign off the paper but ask me to contact the hospital directly, therefore called St Paul, first nurse did not explained well what I need to get the license from Food & Hygiene Dept in HK then I requested to talk to her line manger, later she called me and explained hospital policy changed this May and no longer allow the patient to retain the placenta for own consumption, rigid and backward!

Then end up I am on the waiting list the Sanitorium Hospital as this hospital is a popular celebrity hospital in Hong Kong, they allow me to keep my placenta so that I can make the capsules.

Would like to hear your up-to-date too!

A 4-days Baby Fair at the Wanchai Convention Center has started from today, I will go tomorrow morning and see if I can meet any of you, have a fantastic weekend!

Hi all, are you preparing your baby items checklist? Shall we share what we know are good and must buy?

I can share first.

1. Cocoonababy -- recommended by a mommy as it helps baby sleep better and longer. It can also help avoid flat head.

2. My Brest Friend breastfeeding pillow -- helps avoid sore shoulders as it frees mommy's hands

3. Motherlove Organic Nipple Cream -- very good review

4. Charis Kids bibs -- super soft and waterproof

5. Medela Freestyle pump -- recommended by many mommies

6. Stokke flexibath -- foldable function is perfect for travel

7. Ergobaby performance carrier -- highly recommended brand

• Definitely recommend my Brest friend, it is great for breastfeeding.
• Ergo carrier is also great, as long as it's not too hot outside for the newborn insert.
• Lansinoh nipple cream is good too, but a bit of expressed breast milk the best.
My top suggestions:
•Forget buying a Moses basket, you'll be lucky to get 2 months out of it. Or if you do; buy second hand!
• Recommend a session or two with a lactation consultant straight away (in hospital if possible)- breast feeding does not necessarily come naturally!
• Also recommend having a sleep consultant's details up your sleeve in case your baby struggles with sleep.
• For baby's cot/bed: cotton sheets, waffle weave cotton blankets.
• Swaddle of some description is a worthy investment too!
• Worth getting a VIP membership at Eugene Baby!

Are you ladies buying the stuff now or will you wait till later?

Agree with all those items
Also bought the car seat plus stroller travel system. :)
