Due Date - Jan 2015

@pollyrafiq... I'm staying here partially because of Hk ID as well...

Lucky you! I love scans! I'm one week behind you. Have a 9w scan next week and can't wait :)

Yes, pray for safe delivery to all the expecting mummies out there!

I'm reading Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth... It's really empowering. Good read if anyone is passionate about vaginal delivery or worried about the experience of labour ;)

I love scans too! I look at it as my 'face to face' appointment with my little bub and I look forward to it so much.

Thanks for the tip on the book, will look out for it.

Hi, I am wondering if anyone is going for an Oscar or Nifty test at 11-13 wks? Have done some reading and my understanding is that Nifty is 99% accurate while Oscar is 90%. The price difference is about $4,000. I am wondering if it is necessary to go for Nifty if you are not having a high risk pregnancy. Any thoughts on this?

Hi everyone, I'm about 9 weeks now but not booked in for my first appt until 13 weeks with the public system but everyone here seems to be going for scans and appointments so I am wondering if I should be doing anything different? Any advice gratefully accepted!!

My Nifty test has been scheduled on Jun 28 of almost 12 weeks pregnancy at the price of HKD7000. It's personal and I would like to ensure healthy baby with me, very much looking forward to this amazing wonderful journey of pregnancy.

I was told the public system no ultra sound picture to take home, the scan is more for the doctor for reference, quick with no medication, the basic get to know, depends on the person if they want to know or have more knowledge to bring home.

Hi everyone! Congrats to all of you on your pregnancy!

I am also due in January, and it's my first one! I am currently 9weeks+4days. I'm also planning to give birth at Queen Mary, as I have read loads of good reviews, and it's the best amongst all the public hospitals.
Have had private check ups so far, as my first public hospital registration at Tsan Yuk is in my 13th week.

During my last private checkup, last Sunday, I was able to see and hear my baby's heartbeat! It was an amazing feeling. I was not having high expectations, as I have been having doubts due to a miscarriage last December :( Every pregnancy is different, and I believe this one's going A-OK. :)

Looking forward to sharing my pregnancy journey with all of you and hearing all of yours too! Happy pregnancy everyone!

I suggest having an appointment with a private doctor while you wait. You will be able to have an ultrasound, hear your baby's heartbeat, and get any questions answered by your doc. Furthermore, if you are not already having your prenatal vitamins, he/she will be able to prescribe you with some. Though it is not necessary, an early appt can give your mind some peace if you are having any worries.

Thanks kkangeroo, and congratulations! I did go get another blood test this week and the numbers were good. I also went to see Annerley Midwifes and they were fantastic so I will be taking one of their packages as well to supplement the public system. I think it will make me feel more comfortable to be able to ask questions and go to the classes they provide.

Hi kkangaroo! Welcome to the board! I'm 9 weeks 5 days, pregnant with twins! It's so great getting to see and hear the babies hey!! At my last ultrasound (3 days ago), I saw one little one paddling her arms and legs... As though she was waving at me :) waiting anxiously for the 12 weeks mark so I can announce it to the world!

My doctor ordered an OSCAR scan for my 12 weeks. Which test is everyone else having?

Yea, that's a good idea. I know they have this half & half package (public + private), which is quite attractive. However, I wish their classes were on weekends, so that my husband and I both can go to them.

Thx! Congrats on your pregnancy emch1224! That's cute, I wish I could have taken a longer look at my baby via ultrasound, the private doctor seemed quite rushed. I can't wait for my next ultrasound!

I have announced my pregnancy to 2 close friends, my sister, and my husband's parents (as we are staying with them for the time being). It's really hard to hide those pregnancy symptoms, and it's been much easier this way. But definitely will wait the 12 week mark before announcing it to my parents and other friends.

My first scan to test for down syndrome is also in the 12th week. I am not even sure what type of scan it is, I think just the regular one. It costs 1700 at the private hospital. Where will you be getting your OSCAR scan done?

I'm doing the 'best of both worlds' package. But the classes are all in the evenings so hopefully you could do that? My husband is away a lot but hopefully he will be able to make a lot of them - fingers crossed!

Hi kkangeroo, I'm pretty sure it's 6:30-8:30 but they do also do one where they pack it all into a weekend. That might work better for you and your husband. It's worth giving them a call to talk about it, they are really helpful

I think the OSCAR scan is a blood test and an ultrasound. I can't wait. I heard it takes a while to take the measurements so you're just lying there watching your baby on the screen. I'm doing my at a clinic at Central, his name is Dr Lam (sorry, forgot his first name).

Annerley is amazing hey! When are you planning to start the classes KTownbaby?

I will have my Nifty test this weekend.

Anyone interest to have the Antenatal classes for childbirth together, I have registered The Adventist Hospital in Aug for 4 sessions conducted in English from nutrition, breathing techniques, stages of labor, care of newborn and breastfeeding.

Hey @KTownbaby and @pollyrafiq,

I don't know if i am super unorganised or what but I haven't really PLANNED my antenatal classes yet... i still think its too early... i haven't bought or signed up for much since I found out I was pregnant because I didn't want to jinx anything (haha). I;m currently 10 weeks and probably won't look into securing anything until 12 weeks (or after my OSCAR results).

I am definitely going with Annerley's classes though because they seem to know what they're talking about and I found them to be quite personal and approachable. At how many weeks are we supposed to be taking these classes? Everything in Hong Kong seems like it gets booked out in a blink of an eye!

Em x

@ emch1224, HK is a super fast city and if you do not enroll sooner than the course starts, the chance might be you have to be waitlisted, I am 10 weeks pregnancy too nothing will be too early or too soon when take things slowly than last minute rush, the course will be held in Aug.
