I thought I would start the April Due dates club since there isn't one yet and it might be easier to keep track of discussions and such. When you all are up to it...let's meet up for tea/coffee sometime. Hope everyone is still doing well. I'm going into 16 weeks this week and my due date is around April 7th.

hi there, i think we should start planning a meeting too. i'd suggested it on our other thread but it got lost in all the other discussions i suppose. my due date is April 10, so almost right there with you.

Hi guys, my due day is 15th April.. 14+4 today.
I agree to have a meeting with all the moms to be /moms as well so we can all share our experience and feelings!
Anyone of u showing yet?

babyblue#1 i am about 15 weeks now and just started to show a little. it's not a very big bump though. what about yourself? :)

Hi Mariac, maybe because I've always been a big girl so I'm actually looking like 4 months pregnant with stretch marks ( not realising until it was itchy and take a close look at it).......
I actually felt the little one last week (just a very tiny movement) and waiting for my 16 weeks check up to see the sex of my baby so i can start prepairing the nursery!

How is next Wed for you guys? What is the best area for all of you to meet? I'm pretty close to Central so we could meet somewhere there...Holly Brown on Stanley St. seems to have lots of seating. And there's always Pacific Coffee and the huge Starbucks in Alexandra House. I'll be bringing my baby so the best time for us is probably around 3. She's 9 months so we'll see how she is about sitting still long enough to have a coffee :) I'm showing already as this is #2. I'm almost 16 weeks pregnant and our next checkup will be around 20 weeks.

a weekday is fine for me as long as you ladies don't mind if i bring my mom along? she is visiting me for a couple weeks and i don't wanna leave her alone. if it's a weekend, i can ask my hubbie to keep her company for a while.

Of course she can come along...I'm bringing baby so hope you all don't mind that. Weekends, my hubby really likes to be with me and baby since he works all week and doesn't get to spend a lot of time with us.

Sorry ladies I actually live in Macau since my husband's work is here so I wont be able to make it this time.
I only go back to HK few days every month to visit my parents also for monthly check up. Hopefully I can meet u ladies next time!

Sorry ladies, I'm still working full time ( and ridiculously long ones at that lately) so won't be able to make it. Hopefully next time on a weekend?

Hi SydneyGal, r u planning to give birth in HK or in Sydney?
I'm from Sydney as well (orginally from HK) and even thou i had paid the deposit for hospital bed already in HK but still tossing around if I should go back to Sydney for birth.. (I much prefer HK thou)
I miss Sydney!!

Hi ladies

I & my daughter (almost 16 months) would love to come and meet you all but we are flying out to Sydney this Friday for about 10 days! I just can't wait; even though we've been in HK for only 4 months, I miss home dearly..

Anyway, maybe next time.

Hey SydneyGal, great to hear ur going back home for birth, I'm still tossing around!

I have been feeling the stress lately because of the cost of giving birth, the hospital, i kinda regret booking the private hospital just in case there's any complications... and i get scared just by thinking of having natural birth....
or am i just thinking too much here?? any ladies going thru the same?

Ladies...

I just received a phone call from my doctor suggesting I should get amino done while my OSCAR result is totally normal, because my sister has down sydrome.
If amino has absoutely no risk then I wont think twice about doing it but there's risk of miscarriage after doing amino.... what do u ladies think i should do? i m so confused...

Go with your gut feeling Babyblue, the amnio is not 100% either. I've had friends of friends that had positive oscars and amnios and decided to go thru with the pregnancy and their baby came out ok with no problems. It's such a difficult decision! I wish you the best in deciding.

babyblue, have you done any personal research on how common down syndrome is as a genetic problem? how often is it passed on as a genetic condition? perhaps you wanna read up on it a little bit before you make a decision. on the other hand, if you feel like an amnio wouldn't change your decision about giving birth, then is it really something you want to put yourself through, emotionally and physically? i don't know...just some thoughts. i know how tough it must be. i didn't do an oscar at all as i didn't want to put myself through any of this, based on somewhat inaccurate testing.

as far as natural birth - for some reason the thought doesn't scare me even though this is my first. the prospect of an unnatural birth (c-section, complications) scares me more.

Thanks ladies..

I did reseach for a whole day and found out a lot about down syndrome... there's 3 types of down syndrome and only one type (5%) would pass onto family members. And my lil sister's type doesnt pass on.

After seeing wat my parents , me and my brother went thru when i was young, i dun think i can bare to have a ds baby and for sure, finding out if my baby has ds we would give it up. I'm sorry if u guys think my decision is mean and selfish but i started helping my parents looking after my little sister with ds when i was 5, and it was extremely hard on us.

So i have decided to see my OB for 16 weeks check up next week, then will definately get the amnio done depends on when. But do u ladies know where i can get it done that will get the result asap?

Babyblue, I also decided to do an amnio because of some family history issues. Now I am at 12 weeks and I will skip the OSCAR and go for an amnio directly at 16 weeks (cause the result of OSCAR won't change my decision on the amnio). Hopefully the result of amnio will put my mind at ease but as mariac said it sometimes isn't accurate. It is indeed a touch decision! Regarding the miscarriage risk, I don't think we should worry too much about it because I barely heard anybody lost the baby because of the amnio, and think about most of the pregnant women who are over 35 are getting an amnio automatically anyway (at least in HK). So the risk shouldn't be that scary.

After the amnio you can pay an extra cost (private is about HK$800, not sure about public) to have the test gone through a FISH technique then you will have the basic result in just about 2 days.

Thanks smile-ss, at lease i know i m not alone here... my OB told me that amnio cost $4500 but didnt tell me when i can get the result... and i guess this is market price...
