April 2011 Moms

Hi Babyblue
I don't think anybody has any rights to judge on the choice you & your husband make - to be honest with you, we did choose to do the Oscar test and I think we would have seriously considered our options if we have had a high chance of having a DS baby.. my husband says we are too selfish not to.
So anyway, in the end, it's your life and I don't think you should apologise to anyone for making your own decision that's best for you and your family. All the best!

Hi Babyblue,

I'm not in your due date club but saw your post and thought I'd respond since I've done the amnio before. It is meant to be very accurate in telling you about down syndrome (almost 100%). After the amnio, I went straight home and rested for the rest of the day/evening, and took it easy very easy for a few days afterwards. I did mine with Dr Lam (2877-3280). They called back the next day with the result for down syndrome and the full results are available 2 or 3 weeks later but they only call you if there are any issues. It cost $6000. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Good luck. It will be fine. I felt the hard part was making the decision to do it - the procedure itself is not too bad.

Babyblue, i totally agree with Violet A - whatever you decide, it is not anyone's else's place to judge. It is your life and your baby. And this forum especially, I believe, is a place to share and support. So let us know how it goes and till then my best wishes and prayers are with you.

Thanks ladies..i m so touched right here necause its the first time i can feel supports and understandings.
i picked up the exact ratios for the OSCAR test yesterday and consulted another OB.
NT: 1.4cm, blood test: 1:10000, triple test: 1:20000
the 2nd OB that i saw was telling me to wait til the structure scan @ week 20 or my 16 weeks scan next week to see if baby has nasal bone. He was telling me that 9 our of 10 babies with ds dont have nasal bone and i shouldnt worry too much til the scan.
I feel so much better after expressing my feelings and concern here.. i couldnt tell my family members because i know they would worry sick and my husband had enuf stress to handle from work already..
thanks a lot ladies..... i really appreciate the care and support here!

Hi Babyblue,

I am in the same shoes as you are. I have a sister with DS and i have the same fears. Although my doctor said its not genetic because it was age related for my mom, still its always at the back of my head. I had full intention of getting an amino when my doctor said that i should wait for the results from the OSCAR & Blood test. The ultrasound was normal, i am just waiting for the blood work to come back.

I wish you best of luck. No matter which way you look at it, its a hard decision. Just have faith that all will be well and you are doing whats right for yourself and your family.

Definitely! The decision is hard but it's for you and your husband/partner to make and that decision is best for you and your family. No one can judge you for that decision. No one is in your shoes. This is the place to share and get support.

Hi Everyone,

Finally I found this club!

Mariac, I am from Malaysia and currently in my home town and will be back second week of Nov. My EDD is 23 April. Wonder is it the horrible 3 months are over, I can eat a lot more better at my home town then in HK, I guess my little cola love it too!

Babyblue, I have got a friend who also diagnosed having high risk DS child, but her boy is 5 now and very healthy. No one has any rights to judge you, whatever you and your husband decided are in the best interest of your kid. Stay positive!

Well, I am also hesitating whether to give birth back at Singapore/Malaysia, the cost of private in HK is really expensive for us, but my husband said he wanted to involved throughout the pregnancy, if I did go back to Spore/Malaysia( where all other family members will be around except my husband), he would missed the last 3 months and may not make it on time during delivery, so we are almost decided to have it in HK, however, I am still considering... What is your consideration?

Hi ladies ,
i m new to this forum, first pregnancy and i m at 12 weeks at the moment , would love to join the next meeting if it's ok to learn and share with everyone .

banane76 - i'm totally up for wednesday as well. will that work for you?

sstella - is wednesday ok for you?

Wednesday works if it works for everyone else. Could we meet around 230-3? Where does everyone live? Where would be central for everyone?

i live in kowloon but only a stop away from central, so somewhere in central/soho would be fine for me. 3pm would be great.

Hi everyone!
We will be in Thailand next Wednesday so I can't make it but next time, I would love to join! We currently live in Tung Chung but looking to move to HK Island as my husband's new job is in Quarry Bay.
Hope everyone's doing well. I am feeling pretty good (17 weeks yesterday!).
