Hi,

Great to hear the voices from all of you.

I am also a Malaysian, have been living in Singapore for 10 years. Just moved to HK 5 months ago. Had my baby girl here. She is 2 months old now.

Shall we all meet up at Central HK? I am free during weekday except Tue and Thursday afternoon.

hi Snowbird,
I had a great experience delivering in Union Hospital, and also a great OBGYN (Dr Alexander Yip) with a very reasonable price.

I paid only HK$450 per consultation including ultra sound scan. I heard some of doctor fee goes up to HK$1200 per visit!! If you like to have more info, please feel free to ask me or I can talk for non-stop about pregnancy during the coming gathering :-D

cheers,
Ai Li

Hi Snowbird,

Forgot to mention, I would highly recommend Bel-Air on the peak. It is very close to Pok Fu Lam. It has free shuttle bus that goes to Sheung wan (2 stations to Admiralty).

I regretted not choosing Bel-Air on the Peak but Mid-Levels :(

It is definately worth viewing the place before finalising your stay.

Hi, I'm singaporean and have a 21 month old son, living in the mid-levels. Would love to join your gathering. I'm free all days between 1 - 3pm.

Hi Ladies,

How about meeting up next Wednesday (12 Nov 08) at Starbuck IFC (2nd floor) at 2pm?

Is the timing and venue OK for everyone? Look forward meeting all of you soon.

Hi all,

I've a 13months old and I am 4.5months pregnant and I leave in Pok Fu Lam.

We really like it in Pok Fu Lam. It's alot greener, lots a good schools ard and still very convenient to Central/Admirality. Perhaps you might consider Belcher's if you like a really children friendly place.

Love to meet up for coffee.

hi

I am a singaporean too but I am due to deliver on 12 Nov 2008 so I can only meet you ladies in Dec 08 if its not too late :)

hi everyone!

thanks for all the advise and info on the OBGYN - I will PM those with doctors' advise separately for the doctor's contact details.

yes, we will definitely take a look at DB although my husband seems to like CWB/ Sai Kung more (even though we haven't seen it!) but I like the sounds of Pokfulam ;-)

I hope you have a fun day on the 12th and if you guys are meeting up again end of November, I'd love to join in. Will be checking this thread often and looking forward to meeting you very soon

Cheers!

forgot to add that our insurance doesn't cover maternity - any idea what private cost would cost? I had my boy in Thompson with full insurance coverage at that time....... but it was still expensive as i had emergency c-section.

i was told Queen Mary Hospital in Pokfulam is Govt is highly recommended and many expats had good experience there. How does it work in HK Govt hospital? Would doctors like the ones recommended above deliver in QMH?

Thanks!

hi all,

so happy to see so many singaporeans n malaysians in this thread. hope to be there on weds for the meetup.

hi snowbird,

i go to doctor patrick chan, a private obgyn and i find him a very good doctor too. he is the patient and thorough kind of doctor. if you're interested, he's in 5th floor, tak shing building, central. i plan to deliver in Queen Mary hospital too cause i find the cost a bit too high and i'd rather use the money for some other cause. so what happens is i do private care for my monthly checkup, and do my delivery in queen mary. you have to get registered in queen mary and do some checkups there too. i've been to queen mary and they're pretty good actually. let me know if you need further info.

hihi!

i am a canadian-chinese who's been in hk for 9 years. my hubby is singaporean. we have a 23 month old boy and expecting baby #2 in late december.

for those looking for OB, i used Dr Joe Chan during my first pregnancy and he is looking after me again this time around. i only have positive things to say about him, so if anyone wants a biased review, pls let me know!

would love to meet up with your group ~ will definitely try to get to coffee on Nov 12.

see ya!

Hi Snowbird

I myself is a singaporean. My husband is local. Well I had my 1st kid in Thomson Medical Centre in Singapore too.

I am due for a c-section on the 12 Nov 2008 here in Matilda.

I have been to Queen Mary too due to medical complication. My private OB is Dr Edmond Hon he is formally from Queen Mary. His bedside manner is great and he is very patient and will explain everything to you in details, He speaks both English and Canatones.

Private Vs Public
It depends whether which private hospital you are looking at and whether its normal delivery or c-section. In a private hospital it can range from HK$30,000 - HK$60,000 depending on the kind of room you choose excluding OB fee. If you are a private patient in a public hospital it range from HK$39,000 - HK$48,000. If you are a private patient in a public hospital you can see a specific OB. Dr Ben Chen from Queen Mary is really good too. He only see private patient in Queen Mary.

If you have a HKID you are entilited to public hospital care at about HK$100 per day during your delivery but you can choose a OB and during your pre-naetal check up you see a different doctor everytime.

So it really depends on what you are looking for. Please feel free to PM me if you need more info.

Hope it helps,

Hi jaz1311

thanks for all the info - really makes it easier knowing how it works. I'll PM you as I have other questions too

Another thing I forgot to mention (again) is that I am trying to go VBAC (vagina birth after c-section) this time round and not sure if any of the doctors mentioned are advocates of VBAC? Seems that some doctors prefers to perform c-sections if the first time was a c-section.

Thanks.

Hi pekkie

thanks for your intro to dr patrick chan - I've just PM you - please check when you have a moment.
Cheers
