Yong family moving to HK

I got it! Thnx for the tip!

And no more websites like this? I see just some local property agents site, which do not have any of a choice...

My regards

I went through around 7 agents when I arrived in HK and all of them had different listings to show me. What I've learned is to go to the local Midland agency because they have the most listings available in the particular area you are looking at. I found my place through a midland agency in whampoa garden by chance. I was walking around, saw the agency and we enquired.

Unfortunately I don't have answers re: schools because my little one isn't going to school yet. There are many around like Anfield, Learning Habitat, Deborah, William, Cannan etc but I don't have a clue if the education is good. Maybe other mums can help?

I was interested in the West Kowloon Area as well but for my budget the flats were too small, too high and no view.

You can pretty much choose any kindergarten in the kowloon tong area when you live in Hung Hom as they all have school buses that will pick up your child from your apartment building and drop them home after school.

I lived there for six months when we first moved to Hong Kong in the harbour view horizon. It was a serviced apartment there and we chose it as my husband moved here before I did and wanted me to be able to view apartments before we made our final decision on where to live.

Good luck!

We just moved to HK too.

We moved from UK to HK on 8th May. We are in Laguna Verde and I feel its ideal for families. In the building next to us here's dry cleaners, supermarket(parknshop) 7 eleven, kindergartens, restaurants, Centaline (property agency)etc. If we walk a few steps (literally) theres the 1st playpark of many, right at the sea with a beautiful view of HK. A 10 min walk to the ferry terminal. Whampoa is 10mins away for shopping, cinema etc. Hutch. Park is across the street which is a beautiful park with lots of birds ,goldfish, terrapins. Its a beautiful park even has a play park. My girls love it. Regarding kindergartens.....Habitat is full, Victoria has a waiting list of 200. I know Anfield and Deborahs have places for Sept (Our girls are 3 and nearly 2) I have to say the girls settled in well here. Hope it helps you. Good Luck!

TTong! Thank you for the kindergarten information! As we will be moving in October-November, I guess all the kindergartens will be full by that time... I'll see if I can book it anyhow. How about the flats in Verde? What is the price for 1300 sq.f. (120-130 m2) ?

Thankee

Sorry for not responding sooner ?????????? I am a typical woman...husband sorts that! lol I'll find out and get back to you.

I'm staying in a 1,300 sqft flat in Laguna Verde and it costs 26,000.00. I am not sure if the prices have gone up though.

Finally remembered to do this. We are in Laguna Verde in a 3 bedroom 600sqft apt and its $ 13,500 monthly..Its ample space for us!

can't imagine how they squeeze 3 bedrooms into 600'!!! i know, i used to live in hk flats... i know, i'm now miles from everything... but we pay $16,800 and have 2100', 5 bedrooms, 4 baths.... i DO NOT want to ever live in the small flats again! i am quite happy putting up with the commute in order to be able to afford the extra space!

Sorry we have 2 bedrooms..lol typing error...................we were used to a much larger place when we lived in Kuwait and UK but really there is only so much space you need to live in. So far it suits us but I know if we wanted more children we would HAVE to move.

Cara, when you decided to live far away from the city center in exchange for some space at a better price, did you add the cost of a car (car+gas+parking) and still came to the conclusion it was not only the right choice for a better quality of life (I mean it is important to feel good in one's own home) but also the cheaper solution? Thanks for your feedback.

YES! don't get me wrong, there are times i wish we lived a little closer to town, but all in all, we are quite happy here we are.

we did factor in costs of a car, but you can get 2nd hand cars quite cheaply. (we just got a 1995 toyota corolla for $9800). we have free parking at home (2 car parks) and you quickly learn which shopping centres have free parking if you spend $X. i virtually never pay for parking in sai kung town or anywhere else for that matter.

i drive a lot and i put $ 500ish petrol/gas in once per week.

not only that, but as many mother's will attest, public transport in hk is fantastic...BUT when you are trying to do it with small kids it can be a bit of a pain.

Thanks everyone!

Laguna Verde it is! I guess 1200-1300 (3 bedroom) for 25-26K will be available! Now it is better to concentrate on kindergarten at that area! Anyone experienced? We should move in Oct.-Nov. and I am not sure if most of kindergartens will take our son at that time...

Which kindergartens are the best at that area and what should we do to make it happen?

Thnx again everyone!

Hope you'll be very happy here! I know when we were looking Anfield had no problem with spaces....its in Laguna Verde Complex so its very handy come rain or shine. As I have been asking other mums for a while it does seem to have a good reputation. The other option we looked at was sending her to the Chinese Kindergarten also on site. Still pondering over it. Really. We are having such a good time here. She is 3 and knows her numbers, colours, alphabet & animals etc So she wouldn't really need to go to school/ kindergarten to learn in English. We do art at home, paint, playdoh, cards, draw etc She just needs to be around other kids her age and maybe learn some Cantonese. We meet other kids in the clubhouse playroom in the mornings. Same friends come each day so that's good for them. We would go to the indoor or outdoor pools in the afternoon and sometimes the park downstairs in the evenings. I have to say the clubhouse here is very good. I think. Facility wise there's Tennis court, Basketball, Golf driving range, area for private BBQ, gymn, indoor/outdoor pools, billiard room, american pool, squash, table tennis, dancing room, sauna, steam room, library and not forgetting PLAYROOM! Oh and a Karaoke Room if that floats your boat. Mobile libarary and mobile family planning come each week too. Sorry to be so long but I found the Clubhouse list a s i was looking for Anfield File..........(Their email Anfield International Kindergarten Incase you want to look at it. ) Kindergarten can be sorted once you move. For now try and enjoy some sights of Shanghai before you leave. Good Luck.

TTong!

Thank you so much!! You're just making us so confident about everything!

Thank you everyone! Really helped a lot! I will write about the result and status when we move!

My warmest regards to everybody!
