Last year LLL-HK stopped holding evening meetings because the attendance was very poor. These meetings were targeted for working mothers but we realized that when you have been working all day there isn't much energy left to attend a meeting as well. After discussing this we decided to try a new idea to help meet the breastfeeding support needs of working mothers.

We have set up a new yahoo group called lalecheleaguehongkong-working • LLL-HK Working Mothers Support. This group will run like a typical La Leche League meeting is run, only it will be online. This group is primarily for women who are working and breastfeeding and so find it difficult to attend our traditional meetings.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding and working or intending to return to work this list is for you. Send a message to [email protected]

Membership to this list is moderated. When you join, please tell me something about yourself and be sure to answer the questionnaire or you will not be approved.

Best wishes,

Many thanks for this suggestion - yes, it is tricky to find suitable times. In the past we have organized meetings at weekends, but we found, weekends are OK for a one-off event - but it's very hard to sustain regular meetings at these times.

There are a number of reasons for this. It's much harder for our Leaders to commit to regular weekend gatherings, as we all have older children and are very involved in their weekend activities - art classes, sports matches, skating lessons, birthday parties etc. (La Leche League Leaders all work on a voluntary basis.)

Similarly, there are difficulties with finding a suitable venue at the weekends. Our meetings are usually held in the homes of our Leaders or members. This is usually OK during the week when husbands are at work and children at school. But at weekends it becomes very difficult as other family members tend to be around the home. Meanwhile public venues also get very busy at the weekends, so holding a meeting in a Starbucks, for example, is much harder.

If the email group really wanted to have a meeting somewhere at a weekend, we could probably find a Leader to come along and run the meeting - but we would not be able to commit to doing this on a regular, monthly basis.

Hope this explains...

Best wishes
SARAH
