Which milk formula for newborn?

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has any thoughts in which milk formula to go for. I understand that baby has a big part to play in whether they are OK with certain formula. Just wanted to hear if anyone has anything to share? Thanks!

When I started mine on formula, he first got a Japanese brand bc that's what my mil brought over before, and then when that ran out I switched him onto bellamy's organic formula. I tried a bottle from my friend first to see if he liked it.

We're using Aptamil from Bumps to Babes. Not the one from PNS or Wellcome. Different manufacturers.

Shenzhennifer, have you had issues with Bellamy's? Particularly supply? They have it at our Taste but I didn't want to use for fear of supply cut-off due to shortage. B2B always has the Aptamil in stock. But I can't bear heading out regularly just to get formula as it's not stroller friendly.

Oh, Bellamy's was a real hassle sometimes to get. I was actually annoyed with myself that I chose such an elsusively available formula for my baby.
I rarely got it from B2B, mainly because I rarely go there and the few time I tried (after one successful try) they were out of stock.
I sometimes got it from Three Sixty, who also ran out all the time. It's also available at some PnS Internationals, but at a higher price ($40 more).
The most reliable distributer is BabyCentral, the online baby shop. They always have it in stock, prices are ok, and they deliver. I would just stock up when I made an order.

You can buy Bellamy's direct from the distributor. You have to bulk order 10 cans but they deliver to your home too!

i use aptamil (wellcome one) and my sis used enfamil for her 3 kids...both are easily purchased at wellcome / jasons etc...

Thanks all for sharing. Now I know I need to consider the ease of buying milk powder too. For those using Bellamy, may I know what made you chose this brand. Anything on being organic, or brand?

I chose Bellamy's firstly because it's organic, my main priority, and also because that's the kind my friend had and let my baby tried, and since it was successful, I continued with it. Also, Holle and Hipp packages are much smaller, whereas Bellamy tins are regular sized.

We use Hipp because it's organic, has 2 separate packs in a box so you don't have to worry about it going bag before you finish the box. It's also cheaper than most commercial brands and Bellamy's seems quite pricey compared to it. The new Hipp formula also has DHA and prebiotics.

I think you just have to tried a few at the beginning. I tried like 4 or 5 before finding a right one. Finally we settled with Enfamil.

Also, i think Enfamil offers a little more selection for special needed baby, like if your baby has more gas. You can try their Gentlease or ProSobee. If the baby has reflux, may be A.R. is good option.

We use Similac and everything seems to be working fine.

Another important thing that you need to consider is the availability in your home country in case you are going back for a long period of time.

3Tower makes a good point about considering whether it is available in your home country. We chose to use HIPP which was great but when we went home to Canada I had to carry it all with me because I couldn't find a place to buy it there. Makes for very heavy baggage and the worry that you will run out and your baby won't like anything else if you do run out.

Our peed recommended friso for our newborn as she ws nor getting enough from me. Si far so good. Will continue to bf but may need to substitute night feed as she is still not getting enough from me.

Futurehkmom, I suspect that my supply is low bc baby feeds for 25 to 30 mins but is still. Hungry 15 mins later. Thanks
