Which Hospital??

Dear Teeks,

One reason your doctor may be suggesting that you register with the public system is because twins are much more likely than single babies to be born prematurely. The private hospitals in Hong Kong can only deliver babies born 35 weeks or later.

If f it turns out that you are one of the unlucky ones and your babies come early you will feel much more confident and reassured if you already know something of the public system. And there will be a lot less hassle if you are already registered with them. The Queen Mary Hospital has a very good neonatal unit.

I have friends who have registered with both the public system and a private doctor and make the choice of where to deliver much later in their pregnancies.

Best wishes,
Barb

Thanks Barb, Yes, he did mention about early deliveries of the Twins due to lack of space inside. They are due in early January 2005 but as per my doctor I need to have C-section in mid-December this year. I will definately ask more on my next visit to the Doctors.

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I finally got a chance to visit 3 hospitals this weekend: Adventist, Matilda, and HK Sanatorium. And here are my thoughts.
In terms of service and care, I got the impression that both Adventist and Matilda are quite similar which are a re pretty good. Now as for the rooms in general, the one one at Maltida are my preference. They sort of have a hotel feel to them as opposed to the hospital feel that the others have. The private rooms at Matila are smaller than those at the Adventist. The semi rooms are also nicer at the Matilda but the catch is that they do fill one room first ie two people in the one room b4 they give you another room. whereas Adventist puts one persons per room in the semi-room until they have no empty rooms then they start pairing you up. I would choose either matilda or adventist but am leaning towards matilda.
I definity would not choose HK Sanatorium. They say it is more for chinese speakers( which i am ) and i would still not choose it.
And as soon as you check in at the hospital, you stay in the labour room until you give birth and then they move you to your room.
Hope this helps.

Re:Tsan Yuk Hospital

As per my doctor, to deliver in Queen Mary I need to get registered in Tsan Yuk Hospital first. So I made an appointment for this Saturday.

Does anyone have any idea/experience about the Tsan Yuk Hospital - Hospital Road? (I can't remember whether I asked this one before).

a friend of mine delivered at Queen Mary in March this year and she registered at Tsan Yuk as well as attended the OB(s) there. Tsan Yuk is only for outpatient antenatal visits while Queen Mary is for the actual delivery.
hope this helps.

Seems like no one is considering Canossa in midlevel. My baby was born there. The facilities and services are good. The nurses are supportive in breastfeeding.

I am due in January and I am considering Canossa as my maternity hospital. Can you please tell me more about your experience? I also need to know how much you and your partner paid in the end.

Would you recommend it to others?

Thanks so much in advance.

avi, does your doctor happened to be from the women's clinic in central?? my ob is there and the 3 hospital that you mention are exactly the 3 hospital that he practiced.

kyliedee,

My 2nd is also due in Jan 2005. I've decided to go back to Canossa. I stayed in a 3-bed room for 6 days. End up I was the only one in the room. The nurses were very supportive in breastfeeding. Food was great (esp. the chicken congee).

I had a c-section. My final bill included ob, ped fees, ... is HK&3x,xxx.

dear avi,
mind telling me who's your doc??
mine is Dr Alex Doo, a very wonderful doctor that i have complete trust in him. i think i am leaning towards adventist because it's costs is between matilda and sanatorium. i definitely will not go to sanatorium.

What's wrong with the sanatorium? I thought it's maternity services were among the best ($$$$ anyway) in HK? I was born there (albeit more than 3 decades ago) and my mom still raves about how good it was. Anyone had bad experiences there?

I was misdiagnosed at the SANAtorium. i was told that i have a blighted ovum and i nearly went for a D&C. good thing i went for second opinion and my "blighted ovum" is now 3 months old.
