Which baby monitor is good?

I've been using the Tomy brand (Digital Platinum model), however, it may get disconnected suddenly in the middle of the nite. And supposedly, when I shut it off (the mother unit) and restart again, it will search the signal automatically, so I don't need to go to my daughter's room to reset the unit at her side. However, that's not the case very often.

So, if anyone has any good brand to recommend, please let me know.

P.s., my flat is about 2000 sq ft, so I need one which has strong reception.

Thank you!

i use the one with the camera. but it doesn't receive very well. but my rm is right next to baby's rm, so the reception is good. so i have one more, the angelcare one which reception is good.

I tried the Tomy Digital Platinum as well and also found that it would disconnect more than once a night. I also could not reset it without resetting the baby's unit. I returned the Tomy and bought an Angelcare instead. It works well in my falt which is around your size, even in the rooms which are far away from the baby's room.

Hi Portia,

I actually saw your comment on this in another forum and responded there as well. Ha, I thought it only happened to me, I guess this Tomy Digital Platinum really has some problem!!! I actually contacted Tomy's company itself and they have exchanged the machine for me 3 times, but it still happens like that... very frustrated. Now our 2nd baby is coming and I am thinking of getting another one, maybe I should try the Angelcare. How much is this one? I also heard that the Philips DECT 488 one is good, but I am not sure if they are sold in HK. Anyone knows?

Thanks you.

Michelle

I also use the angelcare monitor and its fantastic. I have had no problems with it.

I got mine for approx $1200 8 months ago.

I use the non digital version, the Tomy Premier Advance, and have never had a problem with disconnection.
It's been excellent, and has a 250m range which we've tested to it's limits back at my parents place in Australia.

Maybe Tomy would exchange it for the cheaper version, which suprisingly seems a lot better.

I also tried the Tomy Premier Advance and unfortunately for our flat it also had the same disconnection problems as with the Tomy Digital Platinum. I was at Bumps to Babes almost every day for a week getting monitors to try out!

Don't buy the Tomy Platinum Digital Monitor!!! Very frustrated!!!

I am so frustrated w/ this montior now! My daughter has been sleeping very well these days, but very often, I was waken by the baby monitor cos' it got disconnected very often in the middle of the nite.

Last nite, it got disconnected at 5am again. Fortunately, I could turn it (the parent unit) off and then on again, and it got reset automatically. But before, there were times that I couldn't just reset the parent unit, but I have to go all the way to my daughter's room to reset the baby unit first, which I would run into the risk of waking my daughter and that I had to spend 1/2 hr or so to settle her back to sleep!!!! So frustrated!! I think I will try the Angelcare for my 2nd baby!!

Yes. Bumps to Babes sell Angelcare. And what's good is that they will let you take it home to try and exchange for something else if it doesn't work in your place.

Do you know how long after the purchase can I exchange the monitor? Actually I bought mine about 1.5 years ago, and since then, I have been using my monitor in Shanghai instead. I'd been contacting Tomy company itself and they have exchanged the monitor for me three times already, but the problem still exists. :-(

I had loads of problem with Tomy Platinum Digital Monitor myself!! First one went completely dead (no reception) after only about 1 month and had it exchanged at B2B. Well, the second lasted about 6 month with disconnection problems all the time and then went completely dead again. Now with our newborn, we opted for the cheapest we could find at Toys R Us (forgot the brand name but it only cost about HKD300 or 400) and it is working great. We've used it for 3month now and our flat is 2,300sqf and the baby's room is at the end of the hall but we have no reception problem.

I went to Bumps to Babes today and saw a couple of different model of Angelcare Monitor. Which one is good?

Has anyone tried the Oregon Scientific baby monitor? I just received one as a baby shower gift and was wondering how good it is.

Another baby monitor for my 2nd baby?

My elder daughter is 20 mths now. Do you think I need to buy another baby monitor for my 2nd baby who's coming out in a few weeks time? Their rooms are side by side, or is it ok if I put the baby monitor at the hallway just outside their rooms? Any comments from anyone?

We bought one for our first baby and have been using it for 19 months now and are very happy with it.
We have no experience with any others but there's certainly nothing we miss from having it.
The reception is very good- not sure what the distance is but I have taken the dog for a short walk with it round my neck and still heard him shuffle.
looks good too!
