where to start - 1st step in changing daytime naps

I want to get my 5 mth old to sleep in his cot in the day time. (Night time is no problem- he goes into his cot and sleeps without being carried). Right now he is carried in the sling, made worse as we have been travelling for the past month. I am going back to work in a week so daytime sleeps will be left to my helper mainly, also my husband. I just don't know where to start to change this habit. Do we start by carrying him and putting him down when he's almost but not quite asleep? Should we start with doing that one nap a day in the morning when he is more able to cope with change than afternoon when he is more tired? Or should we try another method?I need some help please as I am feeling very overwhelmed and stressed about what to do!

Just to add that we have had success at night if he has been unsettled by waiting 1 minute before going in ang settling him and repeating that. Not sure if that would work in the day time? I just don't want to start something then change and change again. Thanks

That's great that he goes down so easily on his own in the evening. I would wait 1 min before trying to settle him...maybe try the pat and shush method so that he is falling asleep in his cot. I sometimes have to carry him and pat him til he's almost asleep.
