Hello everybody,

I've known for a week that I'm pregnant  . I've waited until I made the test before deciding where to go for holiday. We wanted to go to Cambodia, but I think now that it is more safe to go somewhere else.

Can you suggest places where to go safe for pregnant woman?

thank you

why would cambodia be unsafe?

you could try malaysia, thailand, philippines, taiwan, china, vietnam, indonesia, japan, guam...there's so many to choose from!

by unsafe, I mean for pregnant woman, there must be places to avoid. Cambodia is a place where there is paludism, it's not the best place for the food hygiene. I believe one must care about those things once pregnant. I don't want to take any risk.

by the way, I've already been to Singapore, Vietnam, China, Japan, Philipines, Korea and Taiwan.

i think that so long as you are careful with the choices you make then there shouldn't be any problem. only drink bottled water, don't eat cut fruit, eat only in hotel restaurants, those precautions should make it ok...

ps. i'd love to go to cambodia!

How about Bangkok? It's a lovely place to go to with lots to do and eating out is so convenient. I found the restaurants to be very clean, eg. at the Emporium on the top floor, top floor in Central near the World Trade Centre, and Siam Discovery. If you are looking for baby clothes they have Big C, a massive supermarket and various outlets opposite the World Trade Centre - the prices are very cheap too. Also Boots sell baby products - we brought Mon to Sun bibs at HKD29 there. You can also relax with a Spa but make sure that you tell them that you are pregnant as there are some essential oils and massages not recommended to be used.

By the way, when are you thinking of travelling? I've been told that the 2nd Trimester is the safest period for flying.

Isac,

Cambodia definitely is not the right choice for pregnant woman, the trip involve a lot of walking under the sun and the medical facilities are not good.(just in case)

Have you consider to go to Australia to have a hot Christmas ?

thank you all.

Yes, I wanted to go to Australia, but it seems that the tickets are no more available. Maybe, if we go after Christmas and New Year time, we may have a chance.

Isac:

When I was excpecting no.2, we went to South Africa. My LMP was December 26th, and we went on holidays on Febraury 4th, so I was just about 6 weeks pregnant. We flew to Port Elizabeth, via Johannesburg, rented a car, and drove West along the Garden route ending at Cape Town. It was a FANTASTIC holiday, and we and our3-year-old relly enjoyed it. The weather was great then (their weather is upside down, like in Australia), and people ever so friendly. Food was great too and so cheap. We even went on a game drive. I told the driver/guide that I was pregnant, and he was going ever so slowly and carefully. It was so great and we highly recommend it. We spent 11 days, including the traveling time, but could really do with a few more days.

Have fun, wherever you decide to go.

If you want to travel closer to home you could always try Bali or Phuket which are always great places to chill out in.

I dont know where you live in Hong Kong. If not to travel abroad, you may go to Shek O, Stanley or Lamma Island. They are good places for you to relax.

Go to Manila. Stay in Makati. Not a resort place but there are great spas, bookstores, lots of maternity, home and baby shopping all within that area. Stay at the Shang or Peninsula - they're near the Greenbelt/ Ayala area. Great restaurants, nice park area to sit and have coffee by. Upmarket cinemas that cost so much less than here and with the latest movies shown much earlier than HK. A museum just across the road.
