When to schedule the first pre-natal and what will happen there?

Hi everyone,

I just found out I'm pregnant and I was wondering if anyone could tell me when I should schedule my first pre-natal appointment? I took a tour at Matilda this morning and I liked it very much (although quite expensive!!!!). The CR manager there said they were already "closing for October" meaning if we want to deliver at Matilda, we need to see an obgyn asap and book through him/her. Geez, I haven't even decided on whom to see!

Is it too early (just under 5 wks) to have the first pre-natal now? I don't think the baby can be seen yet on the ultrasound. Is it just a waste of money to go so early?

Thank you all!

Hi and congrats on your exciting news!

I had my first pre-natal visit at 6 weeks - I was busting by then to get along and see someone!! I could see a "coffee bean" on the ultrasound and also hear the heart beat.

I was shocked on my first visit too that I had to fill out all the paperwork to book me into the Matilda - I had decided on that hospital but didn't realise I had to sign up at 6 weeks!

Good Luck.

I went for my first at 5 weeks and it was uneventful. At the 7 week appt, we heard baby's heartbeat and did an u/s.

First baby, I went ASAP, I was so excited. I must have been about 6 weeks.

Second baby, I was busy w/ #1 and didn't bother to go for 1st appointment until I was 10 or 12 weeks.

Hi soon2bmom - you're really close in due date to me!! I'm due in late October. I need to start thinking about hospitals!! So many choices...
