Our pediatrician in NY told us every child is different and if they want to eat solids earlier then he/she will let you know as our elder son was doing.
Our 23-month old started organic brown rice cereal at 3-months and we progressed to other fruit and veg purees. We did one new fruit or veg every 2-3 days first, in case of any allergy. This way we could easily isolate/identify it. We introduced in an order like this: sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, butternut squash, peas, spinach, pears, banana, apples, mango, etc.) Then once we knew which fruits and veg were safe then we started blends .
Close to 5-months, our son started to reject all purees and we thought he was sick. Took him to pediatrician, and it turns out that it was just that he really wanted to eat heartier more substantial foods., which our doctor green lit. We started to feed him stews- rice, potatoes, carrots, oxtail, etc. We would make them in a crock pot or pressure cooker. He teethed early and all his teeth broke through sooner than usual so I guess we just have a boy who loves to eat!
