What's the total cost for having a vaginal delivery in Matilda?

Hubby and I went to see Matilda this weekend and really like it there even though we didn't get to see the wards (because I didn't make an appointment!). It was quiet and fancy!!

The 4-6 people room cost $26k for 3 nights. Assuming doctor's fee is $20k, epidural $7,300, anthesiologist $10k, doctor's visit $1k each so total maybe $10k. That would make it $70k--$80k total. Does this sound right? My insurance covers $50k so I will pay $30k out of pocket.

Hubby wants to give me the best and he saw that the difference between a standard room vs private room is $26k. He is willing to pay out of pocket. However, we didn't realize everything scales up if you choose a private room. Is it true? Even the doctors and medicines are exactly the same, they will charge me more if I choose a private room???? That's huge price discrimination!!! Does anyone know how much it would cost for vaginal delivery with a private room? What would be the total cost difference between a standard room vs private room?

Also is this just Matilda or same for other private hospitals such as Cannosa?

Thank you! So confused!

I can't help you with costing at Matilda specifically but the price of everything is more if you opt for a private room (i.e. doctors, anaesthetologist, etc) in any private hospital in Hong Kong. It appears to be standard practice.

The Drs fees between a ward room and private room can be close to double. Ask your Dr for a breakdown of his fees, to avoid surprises. Also you haven't factored in a Pediatrician? We had an inexperienced Paed (our Dr recommended his buddy) come see baby and then called in a specialist. So we paid for Specialists fees too. 1 consult was close to $6K in a private room.

All privates have this illogical fees system but you will definitely notice extra care and attention from doctors and nurses when you choose the more expensive option. You have to consider if that is important to you.

Also beware that the package starts the day you actually deliver , not the day you go in- so if in on Friday night for three days you are out on Sunday at lunch . Or you get charged for an extra night which is 8000 or so. If it s your first you might want to be there as long as possible just worth bearing In mind.
Other thing you should check is how insurance covers emergency c - I didn't have one but my insurance provider treated it as emergency surgery so didn't count cost in maternity package - so ironically would have been cheaper than regular delivery

20 k for your Obgyn is really reasonable i wish mine had that price range! I've chosen Adventist and the costs are lower for rooms. My obgyn fees are 60 k max and she doesnt charge more for emergency c section. You should ask what your drs charges are too just in case! I'm due next week and im hoping for a smooth natural delivery as i don't have insurance cover for maternity and id hate to see a bill of over 100k!
