Hi I need help! My 15mth is turning into a tv addict - this rain has really cut down on our play activities. .... Apart from Kindermusik (2xweek) and Wise Kids playgroup (1xweek), finding it hard to pass the day. Our plans for today again washed away... Any suggestions/advice welcomed...!

Not a very exciting suggestion, but go to your nearest big shopping mall and let baby walk around at his/her own pace, exploring what they want, looking in toy shops etc. Mine loves going to Toys r us and doesn't need to buy anything for it to be fun.

Is he/she walking well already? Then you could buy good boots and a good raincoat and let him/her walk through the puddles when the rain is less heavy. It's big fun! My boy loves it. Have a good hot shower afterwards and it should be fine.

I second Veronika's idea. We've gone and done that too. The other thing we do is take him to an indoor playroom e.g. where we live, at the hotel, the Kids Club is just $50 a year to gain access to the indoor and outdoor play area.

Hi I like the idea of the splashing in the rain...! Veronika, can you recommend where to buy the boots & raincoat (not too expensive... )
Actually was hoping for suggestions of home activity as I prefer not to drive in heavy rain, and of course cabs disappear so can't call either.
Thanks again!

we do playdo , hand painting , we have a sand pit at home so u can do a lot of different activities.

Rain cots and boots u can get from Toy club

you could consider going to the central library in causeway bay and spend an afternoon there, do some reading. btw, there's also a great playroom on the same level.

Both the history and the science museums in TST are fantastic for children of all ages. Tons of interactive things to do.

Thanks for all for the great suggestions! Anyway, so pleased and relieved it's a nice day today, and we will be heading out to the South side for some fresh air... :) Will be stocking up on all the other stuff for the next deluge - need to be prepared! ;)

Yes, I agree! Went to the above museums on Friday w/ my 3 yr.old even though it was pouring w/ rain outside. He had a fantastic time once we were there.

17 month old baby boy

Hi

My baby is 17 month old, and I don't really know what he can do in Science Museum, got any ideas?

Playing in the rain is great fun, and my son loves it too....only so often the rain in HK is accompanied by lightning and thunder storms and then it is not a good idea to be out in the rain.
When it rains my son spends a lot of time at his friends hse, nd they spend a lot of time at ours....gives them the chance to fight over, I mean play with each others toys.
Sometimes we venture to the indoor playroom or indoor swimming pool.

We too have struggles this summer especially as I have 2 and 3 year old boys and it makes it soooooo much more important that they can run around outside!!!! I have had enough of the rain for sure!
We tried the gumboot thing but my 2 year old really insists on NOT wearing them. So we have done lots of painting, play dough, lots of COOKING!! they love it cause they get to eat afterwards. Even making popcorn in a pot is pure excitement these days.

My little boy wears crocs in the rain, they're great. He absolutely loves walking around with no umbrella, no raincoat. I don't mind as long as it's not cold rain, it's all fun exploration.

Cooking and popcorn is a good idea.
