What stroller is the best?

Hi everyone,

Again, need some input. I'm shopping around and can't decide what stroller to get. I don't have a car so I would be traveling with my baby around on the MTR or by taxi. I don't have a maid so I will need one that can carry a lot of groceries for me too. Any recommendations based on what you've used?

Back home in Vancouver, most friends use Maclaren or Graco but here in Hong Kong, I've noticed that most people use Combi, but they seem too light, like they might flip over.
:thanks

Hi, I don't have a helper either and found the Graco EDT to be the best buy for our family. I also have the Bugaboo, Phil & Teds, and a Jeep umbrella stroller. We used the EDT the most and the Phil & Teds when we travel with the 2 kids. I never tried out the Combi ones.

Hi I have a Graco stroller for sale- I bought it in Dec 2007 from Eugene as a spare stroller and kept it at a relative's house. We ended up not using it very often- 3 or 4 times max! No space and happy to sell it if anyone wants it. PM me your email and I can send photos. Just washed and good condition!

MilkMonster - which Bugaboo do you have? Bee or Chameleon. We are thinking of buying the Chameleon. What do people think of the Chameleon?

Hi FutureHKmom, I have the Chameleon and I love it...just not for Hong Kong. It's just too big and heavy. With a 25lbs child in the seat, there is no way I can maneuver up a flight of stairs but with the Graco I can. The fact that it's 2 pieces means when I am out alone, it's near impossible to manage (except when you use the car seat, but that's only for the 1st year) with a young toddler. It's much better to have a stroller that collapses with 1 hand. I am now using the phil and teds double stroller but only to places where I dont need to collapse it or when I am with my husband. otherwise I still prefer the Graco for hopping in and out of taxis and traveling around hk island.

Hi MilkMonster,

Does the Graco EDT have reversable handles and is it suitable for an infant?

Does anyone have input on the Chicco ones? They're awfully expensive though.

No reversible handles. I think it's suitable for babies 4mth+ I used a sling and the chameleon with maxi cosi car seat for the first 5mths.

I have a Chicco stroller and am very, very happy with it. It's comfortable for the baby to sit/lie in and for me to steer it around. The Combi strollers indeed look 'unstable' to me, too (don't know about the actual quality when in use, though).
The only thing is that it's quite bulky, so sometimes people in the street make comments about that; however, I don't care, since comfort for my baby and myself comes first to me ;)
I can also do my daily grocery and fit in heaps of stuff into the basket below.

Thanks MilkMonster for your comments on the Chameleon. A girlfriend of mine told me a similar thing about it - that it's hard to get into a taxi with it, but she loves it nonetheless.

Does anyone have any comments on the PegPerego Skate? Thanks!!

Hi,

We didn't have a car and used the Maclaren Techno XLR and Recaro car seat combination. We had to purchase this in the UK (May07 - not sure if you can get this in HK now, but at the time John Lewis offered to ship this to HK).
I think it was definitely worthwhile, and still use this buggy regularly.
It took a few trips before I was comfortable attaching/ removing the car seat from the buggy, but once I got the hang of it I found this combination great.
If I had to fault it - 2 things - the buggy seat needs to be changed to the flat position before attaching the car seat, and this can be a bit of a struggle when your hands are full (with baby, changing bag, shopping etc) - but probably no more so than with other combinations, and secondly my baby outgrew the car seat after about 7/8 months (tall baby), which was disappointing.

Hope this is useful :)

Happy Shopping :)

I'm also in the market for a stroller. I've actually been attached to Combi since using my friend's with her 18 month old in it. Hers is super light but it never ocurred to me that this would be unstable. I wanted the lightest one possible since it will be starting off with an additional 3+ kilos. The higher end ones are definitely worth it. They're also not bulky at all and quite suitable for city-living. I will definitely be buying a Combi here.

I have a Bugaboo Cameleon and just LOVE it but like others have said, perhaps not suited for what you require. I also have a Graco which is great for HK (big bag underneath for loads of shopping). I also like the Maclaren Techno's and Quests. Go and "test drive" a few and see how easy it is to fold down with one hand etc. Good luck!
