What`s for breakfast, Moms?

I`m getting stuck on what to give my 9.5 month old for breakfast. I give combinations of the following: yogurt with fruit puree, oats (usually with fruit puree), banana cereal. He`s been rejecting the cereals lately unless they`re heavily laced with fruit.
What are you all serving your babies for breakfast?

This is what is on our menu:

-Pancakes
-French Toast
-Eggs with Cheese
-Rice Porridge (not quite to porridge consistency) with raisins, cranberries and milk
-Turkey sausage sandwiches on toast sometimes
-Toast with butter and sugarfree jam

I see you all are giving toast/waffle/bread. If I give that to my son, I`m lucky if half of it goes down. It usually ends up on the floor, in his highchair, in his bib. I still think I have to wait a bit to give him that. Eggs with cheese sounds yummy, but labour intensive since he`s not on whites yet. I guess I have to stretch out the yogurt and porridge some more......

I give my son brown rice flakes mixed with fruit and often add some quinoa flakes in too. I'm getting a bit bored of the breakfast routine too, and like you if I give him toast with vegemite most of it ends up on the floor :(.

You could try baked beans my son loves them. I haven't given any eggs yet, I'm waiting till he turns 1.

Baked beans eh? I love baked beans, but I`m a little fussy about what I feed him, in terms of processed-ness. Doesn`t baked beans have a lot of other ingredients in the can? Will check it out at the supermarket. Would like to get some Vegemite though. All I see at PnS are huge jars of Marmite - ew.
Today I gave my son halved blueberries and a piece of ripe pear. Then some banana whole wheat cereal which he wouldn`t eat until I smothered it in applesauce.
You can give your baby egg yolks - after 6-7 months it`s ok. They`re a nice addition to anything really, and healthy too.

Get the organic ones, the brand I used to buy in ThreeSixty is Biona and I think Heinz also do an organic version.

ThreeSixty and CitySuper also sell vegemite.

Organic baked beans? hehe, what will they think of next?
Guess I`ll be on the lookout for that and the vegemite then. Oh, and is the vegemite organic? (kidding) Thanks a lot!

Egg yolks are healthy? From my knowledge this food is high in Saturated Fat, and very high in Cholesterol. Baked beans are a good option - you can make your own if you are concerned about additives - they always turn out the best anyway.

You didn`t know that egg yolks were healthy too?
They actually relatively low in saturated fat(1/3). They are a great source of protein, even without the whites, when you`re not eating meat. 73% of the inositol,
50% of the niacin,
93% of the vitamin B6,
42% of the riboflavin,
90% of the thiamin
44% of the protein
and substantial portions of the egg’s mineral content

there's nothing to say that a baby has to eat "breakfast food" at breakfast time... you could do rice & veg etc. as well.

yea, carang. my son has been eating carrot tomato pasta or shitake udon for many sunrises already. he will not settle for anything else.

I usually give weetabix with fruit and a bit of milk - different fruit every day. Although if my hubby goes and gets his Fairwood breakfast, my daughter ends up with bits of his ham, sausage, macaroni, toast, etc ;) I don't really do hot breakfasts except for special occasions, so I don't want my daughter to get used to them and expect them - so it's just cereal for her. I made the change from rice cereal to weetabix when she was about 10 or 11 months old. It's still probably not her favourite thing in the world, it's the meal that I have to coax her to eat, but I do want her to get into the cereal for breakfast idea while she's young to make my life easier when she's older. Wish it wasn't too late to teach my hubby to eat cereal for breakfast - it's a hot breakfast or nothing at all for him ;)

We make bircher muesli which is super easy (organic oats, apple juice, raisins, milk and/or greek yoghurt all soaked together overnight) and we all eat it. Every other day my daughter has a poached egg spread onto little squares of toast which she loves.

My doctor friend told that egg is a 'whole food'. if your child did not eat much on that day, give him an egg, that will serve almost all the vitamin for the day.

I know I'm not thanka2 - but when I give my daughter eggs, this is what I usually do...

put an egg or two (or more if we're gonna be sharing) in a microwave proof bowl
put in a dash of milk and a tiny bit of butter (about half a teaspoon full)
add a bit of grated cheese or other stuff if you're in the mood (could add bits of ham or whatever really)
microwave for a minute, stir, another minute etc until cooked.

It's really easy and takes no time at all. Good with toast, although my 1 year old will just pick the egg off the toast and eat it all separately. It's easier to feed her the egg with a spoon. She LOVES it and will eat heaps. We sometimes do that for lunch or dinner, not usually for breakfast - but it's the same thing regardless...

Nicolejoy,

At what age did you give your daughter egg? Did you start with the whole egg or just the yolk. My son is nearly 11 months and I was going to wait till 1 year, but eggs are so easy and I'm running out of food ideas too.

For me I started giving my baby egg yolk first when she was about 9months+, and I started giving her whole egg when she is 11 months, which is now, I have been giving her whole egg for about 2-3weeks now. But when I make the egg, I always steam it with other veggies, like spinach, peas, etc. I always give my baby egg whenever my fridge is empty with meat suitable for her or whenever I run out of ideas about what kind of meat to make for her. Egg is just so easy and good source of protein!! And it's so soft my baby loves it cuz she is lazy to chew!
