what do you miss about home?

i have a list that needs to be met each and every time i go home... it's the same every time (although now that Burger king is here, i can cross that off! i don't eat there a lot, just nice to know that there is one around!)

Where is BK other than the airport? Could use a whopper every now and again;)

yeah....saw one the other day. I think at the junction of Jaffe Road and Percival Street.

I wish I could get Carl's Junior in Hong Kong...I will be willing to travel as far as New Territories for that.

well, i've just had a VERY YUMMY meal from Ruby Tuesday. i got the 50% off card and we ordered:
2 smokehouse burgers (OMG! were they ever good!)
1 rack of ribs
1 large sampler platter (chicken wings, popcorn shrimp, calamari & mozza sticks)
all told... $350!!!!

we'll be going back there again! we don't generally go out for western food as it's just too expensive, but with this 50% discount... we'll be doing it a LOT more often!

as for travelling... that's what i do for BK! we live in sai kung!

my food wish list:
GREEK
taco time
KFC (the stuff here is truly awful!)
POUTINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
perogies
a good meat counter at the supermarket (one with more than 2 cuts of steak, preferably!)
A & W onion rings
Dairy Queen~ pecan mudslides! OMG! YUMMY!
a good pizza

see, this is the problem i have.

i've been here for so long, that when i'm here, i think of canada as home. but when i'm there, i think of hk as home...

i don't really feel like i fit anywhere!

what i would miss about hk food:
dumplings
dim sum
seafood
GOOD S & S pork
GOOD thai food
dried/sugared coconut @ chinese new year
hui lau shan (sago drinks)
siu yuk (crispy skinned roast pork)
pee-ing shrimp (lai liu ha) preferably cooked with garlic, black bean & chili
hot pot (although no reason that i couldn't have that at home in canada)...
korean bbq

that means you have two homes. how lucky you are!

ok, gotta go out for the group celebration now. talk to you later.

Happy Mother's Day to you.

reading all this has made me homesick AND hungry!

i was in aus for a short time during uni and can commiserate all the above...

I had fun reading through all your lists. It made me wistful... not really homesick, though, as I've been here over 10 years that it is home. For now, anyway.

What I do miss very much, though, --

1) Family - my folks (although they do visit HK often) and also cousins that my kids play and can grow up with
2) Great radio stations in English --be it for music or news
3) Cheap, yummy food
4) Mountain Dew

Haha, Cara --I feel that way, too, sometimes!
----

Happy Mother's Day, everyone!

mountain dew... try citysuper or gateway... they both have it sometimes.

ps> did you know there is more caffiene in that than in regular coke?!?!

Not to make anyone jealous or anything, but I`m going for holidays in Canada in less than 2 weeks (and counting the days!).
Can`t wait to eat REAL PIZZA.
Drink AWESOME BEER (ok, take sips bc I`m BFing)
Eat PUB FOOD
Eat my mom`s BREADED VEAL CUTLET

Aside from food (which will not make my baby fat imrove at all), I am excited to
-Show my husband all things western and Canadian since he`s never been to a western country before
-See the look on my 92 year old Grandmother when she holds my 4 month old son for the first time
-be around my family and friends who will marvel at my baby for the very short time they are able to visit with him.

I actually do like HK a lot but I haven`t been home for 2 years and so I really can`t wait and will try to overlook the trip there for 15 hours with a baby on my lap!
