We are moving to HK soon and I have found with every country we've been an expat in so far, there has always been something we can't get...so, could you reply with what you miss from home or what you can't get in HK that you wish you could please :thanks

It could be anything from bra's to a particular baby medicine to vegemite ;-)

Many thanks

US pepsi... honestly though, HK has more expat stores tan most places and you can get MOST things here. There are several threads with this info on the geoexpat board... I posted one myself about 9 months ago...

I want Twisties - I don't know if they have them anywhere, I haven't SEARCHED for them yet...

I can only rarely find Reeses too... every now and then...

Can't get any runny nose/cold medication for kids under 2. We always get friends from Oz to bring them in. You can't get Baby Vicks either.

You can get almost anything in Hong Kong if you are willing to search for it or to pay a lot of money for it. Doing a search on previous threads can help you get an idea of what is more difficult to find. With internet stores more and more companies are now shipping worldwide- but you may have to pay a premium price. If there is a particular product you really like then bring a lot of that product or have friends/families ship it to you. Part of being an expat is learning to live without some things or finding substitutions. People can go crazy trying to find that one particular item or they can learn to cope or find a suitable alternative. That is part of living in a foreign environment. There are many things I find here that I don't find in my home country and vice versa but rather than having the mentality that I can't live without it, I have learned to adapt. HK is very cosmopolitan. You won't be living in primitive conditions here at all.

Fresh (unpolluted) air and grass for kids to run around on!

There's a tiny bit of grass if you look hard enough and drive long enough for it or if you join the Cricket Club.

agree with tikkunolam. initially u will miss things but once u adjust and r willing to adapt ,this place is very easy to live in. U can actually get spoilt living in HK because of how easy things get done here. u must first come to hk and look around and see for yourself what things that u really really like and cannot live without it and cannot find in HK and then decide how to get them from wherever.

Best of luck

The only thing I miss from home is the range of prepared meals, especially from Marks and Spencer. Things that you can just cook in a matter of minutes if you are running through the door and are late and need something v quickly.

HK is v cosmopolitan and I have come here with the mentality that I am prepared to try most things and will adapt.

As some one else said, there is a good variety of imported stuff in the supermarkets here plus their bakeries are pretty good!!!
I'm a little relieved they only sell Australian Cadbury chocolate, as it tastes horrible compared to the UK chocolate and I am not remotely tempted to buy it which helps my waist line!!!

Thanks Tikkunolam, I've been an expat for 10 years so definitely understand about adapting to different products but there are certain things that I just can't live without...vegemite being one of them ;-) and there are certain baby products I prefer to use on my little ones too but thanks for taking the time to reply.

Nicolejoy - ooh let me know if you do find Twisties...lol...love 'em!

Lol Sarahmum, when I lived in London I was relieved because I hated UK chocolate compared to the Australian chocolate...though my waistline didn't improve because instead of small pots of beer, pints became part of my diet! I've missed Pret of all things ever since I left London...and coronation chicken...

I did live in Beijing for a couple of years so am familiar with chinese supermarkets etc and am comfortable with chinese markets etc. so I'm hoping for an easy transition into HK life...fingers crossed...

I think you can get Twisties (& Burger Rings) from Chicken on the Run - a Aussie roast chicken shop along the escalator.

Nappy sacks for your babies nappies. Yes they are sold at Bumps to Babes but cheaper and easy to bring over. BBQ sauce, tampons, I would bring vegemite at present as there appears to be a bit of a shortage in Hong Kong at the moment. Lollies like chocolate bullets or mint leaves not readily available here in Hong Kong.

I also bring back panadol dissovable (not available) as well as panadol and medication for the children. It is just a preference as it is available here. Also childrens detangling spray....

Cadburys cream eggs all year round, they sell them here for the Easter period which I know is when they are meant to be, but in the UK I remember they sold them all year round, yum yum! I am a chocoholic!
