Weight Gain during Pregnancy

With my first, I gained 23 lbs and she was 7 lbs 2 oz.

With my second, I gained 21 lbs and she was 6 lbs 12 oz, 3 weeks early!!

First one gained 22 Kg, baby was 4kg - lost 17 kg first 6 monts, the rest by one year (exlusive BF).

Second one gained 15kg, baby was 3,3 - lost 12 sofar (7 months now:crib ) -- the rest still working on it  and oh still BF, too

I gained 35lbs and baby was 6lbs. Took almost a year to lose everything as I was not able to breastfeed... and was just plain lazy to exercise ;-)

OMG! Now i see why everyone said my belly was HUGE! I put on 55 pounds. Baby weighing 8 pounds at birth. Lost 30 pounds after 2 months. Now baby is 8 months and I still have around 20 too many pounds on me. Started going to gym a month ago. Hope will be back in shape by end of the year.

Put on 14 pounds with the first, who weighed 3.24kgs at birth; also put on 14 pounds with the second one, who was only 3.125 kgs at birth.

Hey ELT,

Don't worry about it... every woman and every pregnancy is different. I am 25 weeks along and have gained 5 kg (11 lbs) so far. I've known women who have put on 80 lbs and others just 35 lbs and both lost it all. Do what you feel is right for you... no one knows you body like you do.

wow so many people gained under 20 lbs!!! I am 22 weeks and already put on 15lbs but people who don't know I am pregnant still don't notice unless I wear maternity clothes that accentuate the bump... I am not even sure when I put on all the weight... I think it's mainly on my torso (boobs and belly). Usually how much weight did you gain in your fiirst, 2nd and 3rd trimester? Can I expect to gain the most in my 3rd trimester or 2nd?

I am only 14 weeks and have already gained 5 kilos! Although when I got weighed in at my last doctor's visit at 12 weeks, he didn't really comment on it. And I am only just now entering into the stage when I should be legitimately putting in pounds too. Should I be worried?

I gained only 4.5 kilos the first 5 months, but suddenly gained 3 kilos in 1 month ! I'm starting 29th week now and gained 7.5 kilos from the beginning...

In the book What to Expect When You're Expecting recommends an overall weight gain of between 11 - 16Kg to be gained as consistently as possible throughout. I ate really healthy; making sure I had my recommended portions of carbs, protein, dairy, fruit & veg every day. I gained 14Kg; pretty much gaining 500g a week after the 1st trimester.

I exclusively breastfeed and I dropped the weight really quickly and I'm around 4Kg heavier than pre-pregnancy but need to be with the breastfeeding.

Hey Guys,

Everyone and everybody is different so don't get worried if you put on 20lbs or 80lbs or 5kgs or 40kgs. As long as you are eating mostly good foods don't worry about it. I am now 40 weeks and one day overdue and have put on 9.8kgs in total and would you believe at one point the nurses were scolding me for eating too many fruits and vegetables. I am 5'11 and by 28 weeks I had gained 6.1kg and they were calling me "obese."

Before I got pregnant I ran daily and worked out with a PT to make sure I was in the best shape of my life for getting pregnant... believe me it took everything in me not to scream when told I was "obese" and eating to much fruit and veggies from a nurse who stands 5'2.

And if you crave a scoop of ice cream, go have it!

I have put on 23 kilos -(67K to 90K)- due any day now. (I put most of it down to binge-eating on a 2-week holiday in England in May.) I have been exercising and eating healthily since then, so am not sure why I have put on so much weight. I have been feeling fine; no back ache, digestive problems etc., and can get around fine, so I guess it's just one of those things. I wouldn't worry about weight gain too much unless you are getting adverse symptoms or your doctor flags it as a problem.

I put on exactly 15 kgs with all my three.First one put on only 2kgs in the first trimester and then packed the rest on at the end.Second gained more that half my weight by the end of the first trimester,so I was really worried, but it evened out and I gained less towards the end.Number three was an even weight gain over the entire 40 weeks. So each pregnancy is different even with the same person!

I ate very healthy food for the most part and did indulge the odd craving.I just noticed that my serving sizes were quite large!I BF all for just over a year and was below my pre-pregnancy weight each time after that year.

Just try to keep active and eat reasonably.Remember that women that are underweight to start generally pack on more weight than those who are carrying extra when they concieve.By my book as long as you are in good shape when you fall pregnant you will have no problem getting the weight off in the end.

Enjoy this time-its over far to fast!
