Hai Moms,

My 3yr old son has extremely dry skin.I use sesame oil before bathing and aqueous cream while going out.
I was wondering if i can use sesame oil before bed at night on his legs and hands.
I just read abt brown sugar and olive oil.is it okay to use sesameoil instead of Oilve oil.

thankyou so much for your time and advice :-)

brown sugar is excellent. use brown sugar & whatever oil you fancy, (i use grapeseed). get brown or chinese cane sugar (the ones in bars & very dark in color, we use it for desserts, available in any supermarkets). chinese old wives swear by chinese cane sugar. i pound them up, cook in a pot to melt, then put in a glass jar, add oil, and close. put in bathroom, everyday after bath, smear on skin, wait maybe 2 mins, & rinse off. you can use them too, you hubby will be happy about your smooth skin!!

menya_feb : proportion of sugar & oil. i cook the oil until it's melted, put in a glass jar, and then i just put the oil a little above the sugar line. so it depends how much sugar you have, but always add oil so the oil is above the sugar. you probably have to stir to mix well.

you can try only one piece of bar sugar first & see how you like it. try it on yourself first. plus, once the sugar is cooled, it's like a scrub.

if you like you can put a little essential oil. tea tree for disinfecting, lemon for uplifting, chamomile for calming, lavender for relaxation, etc.

hi joannek, i made that but the thing is brown sugar got very hard like rock and its settled down and now only oil is floating up. Is this the way it should be. I dont know how to mix it with oil. What should i do now?

you probably didn't cook it enough to melt it all through. try pouring it in a pot & let it cook on slow fire to melt thoroughly & then some. until you can really stir through it like a syrup. if it's too condensed, then scoop some out & add more oil.

what happened to mine was when it is cooked thru & cooled, the sugar became crystal-like. & the consistency of the mixture is like those home-made scrubs.

Hi Joannek,

I'm 20 wks pregnant now and have like a winter itch because of this currently dry weather. At the moment I use Palmers cream every night and in the mornings before I go to work and I itch more in the evenings. I know my grandma used to just boil the brown sugar bars and when cooled down abit pour over our bodies and rinse afterwards.

Is the oil and sugar thing ok to use for pregnant women? I like the idea of the oil too to keep our skin smooth - if ok to use how much of the oil to use in militres if I use one bar of brown sugar?

it's so safe it can be eaten, so i'd think it'd be very safe to put on your skin. can't tell you exactly how much oil to put in one bar of sugar, just melt the sugar, might need to add a little water. then when it's melt thru, remove from heat. let cool, and add oil, so the sugar is fully submerged. then stir well.

since you're pregnant, i wouldn't suggest you to use any essential oils, though.

Absolutely Fabulous!!!
I tried the bars but it ended up like Manya said so i settled for the powder and sesame oil.Its wonderful.
Thanx a bunch Joanne :-)

hi all, mine was like that but still i am using it and its so fabulous even without sugar in it just a oil. Gr8.

Joannek i will try to make it again but first let me finish it. thanks again.

glad to know that it worked for everyone. frankly, i've been very lazy & havne't used the formula for several years now. but i remember hubby was very happy about my very smooth skin.....

On a similar topic, someone gave me a tube of Mustela Emollient Cream for dry skin with atopic tendency. Any idea if this cream can be used as a normal moisturizer in this dry weather for a six-month old or for my 3-year-old?

try look for fonnie at www.fonnie.com.hk. she is a good therapist. i myself took the 2-year course there. I used brown sugar on myself, it did not work on me. i used apricot oil and jojoba alternatively on my baby

hi joannek, engee and all, what i did with that rock hard sugar i melt it again and this time i add little water in it and oil offcourse. This time it was much better and easy to use but still there was no formation of crystals as joannek said. But it worked well. Engee may be you can also try like that.

A very silly question do you use cooking grapeseed oil or olive oil or the olive oil you buy at the local chemists.
