Vaccine in Government center?

I had the vaccine for my first baby with a private pedia, but it's no longer convenient to travel to Central.

We have the government center (don't know what is it called) near our place, walking distance.

Are the vaccines the same as the private one? i understand the government is totally free of charge, so it will save us a lot of money on this, except for those vaccines that are not included in public. What's the difference?

Thanks.

They do not have the 5 in 1 or 6 in 1 vacaine.

They also do not have rotavirus and prevenar.

They only do the basic jabs

both of my kids have only had jabs at the maternal and child health centres without any problems at all.

The 'basic' jabs are in fact those which are recommended by the govt. Anything else, you can get 'extra' (e.g. those which are recommenced in your own country etc) from your private doc (who will simply mark it down on your child's immunisation record).

Hi carang,

Thanks for saying your kids have just had the jabs from the public centres. That is where I have taken my first, and now my second, and got nervous when I heard they "didn't get all the needles" at the public clinics. I will still talk to my "private" dr and inquire about the other vaccines, but I think my kids are safe.

Cheers,
Canucker

You don't get the rotarix, previnar, varicella, HiB or flu jabs.
All of which you can add privately if you want.

..and also chicken pox vaccine.

Thanks everyone, i'm now confident to bring my baby there for vaccination and development tests.

About the development tests, I find that they are more thorough than the ones that we've had at a private doctor's. The only drawback to going to the gov't clinics is the long wait sometimes.

Hi, I have a daughter 2 years old and I would like to do chicken pox vaccination for her. I heard that it's a free of charge at the government clinic? Is it true?

What is the process to do the vaccinations at the government centers ? do we have to see a doctor there first ?
We called the Queen Mary hospital before; they told us to get a referral from one of their doctor first, plus they only do vaccinations on Fridays.
Is it the same for other government centers?
Is there one around/close to Central area ?

We went to private doc for my son's immunizations but it's always so expensive and it's all out of our pocket, as no insurance coverage for that.
