urgently need reliable helper PT from M-F 730 - 1 pm

I didn't want to approach an agency for fear of high costs but we need someone to mainly take care of my 3 y.o, feed him, and send him off to the school bus Monday to Fridays.

Preferably that someone would come with some recommendations please! Does anyone know what we need to pay for M-F half days? Just so I have an idea?

you would be paying about $60/hour... so, a quick caculation:

5.5hrs/day*$60*5 days/week= $1650

*4.3weeks/month (the average # of weeks/month)= $7095/month

you may be able to find someone for less, but that is the "going" rate. you would be far better off financially, if you hired a full time, live in helper.

that's shocking. really! is there any way i could hire a cheaper PT helper without getting a full on live in one (which my husband objects to)?
 
not really.... locals won't do the work for less than about $60/hour. it is illegal to hire a person on a FDH visa to work for you. if caught, you would both get into a LOT of trouble.

before we had kids, we had thought about hiring a local part time... but did the calculations (similar to yours) and found it was way too expensive.

also, there is the minimum wage regulations now, so even if you offered a monthly salary to a local, there is the minimum that you must meet, which is about $30/hour... but, again, you will NOT find a local who will do it for that. you won't find an illegal who would do it for that either.

hubby may have to suck it up, or quit his job and stay home to take care of the kids! ;-)
