Upcoming mums Jan 2011

I would love that! I'm sure I'm pregnant, but it hasn't yet been made "official" by doctor's visit... I work in Causeway Bay so Central would be perfect.

Hi,
I've just had a BFP but I'm also waiting for doctors appointment to confirm everything is ok.
Based in Kowloon but Central is no problem for me. It's my first time to get pregnant so would be great to find some others due jan 11 for some mutual support.

Dear future mums!

My pregnancy is confirmed by ultrasound. I'm 8 weeks now. So I'm due for the first week of Jan 2011. Today, I'v seen the heart beat flicker on the screen. Very exciting! Let me know if you decide to meet sometimes. I'll try to make it in my busy schedule. I'm worried/curious a bit as this is my first pregnancy and I don't know how it's works over here in HK. For your curiosity, I'm 37 and Canadian without baby experience.

For me too it's the first time, have absolutely no idea what to expect!
Will let you know how my doctors appointment goes next week.
I'm 30 and from the UK, would definitely like to meet up depending on work schedule.

hello all,
am 9weeks due 1 Jan2011.
it's my first time too.. and this week's been tough on the preggers symptoms :(..

Hello,

I'm in my 7th week, very early! Due in January, around 19th 2011. It's my first baby too. I live in the NT and work on Kowloon side but can get to most places easily so long as this tiredness keeps itself at bay! I'm from the UK and have been in HK for about a year now so would be nice to meet some more people!

:)

Hi all,

I am so excited to have found all these new mommies who are also having babies at about the same time. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and baby is due January 26th, 2011. It's my first time being a mom and many questions popping in my head. How often do I need to visit the doctor? Should I start reserving hospitals?

My husband and I just came back from Vancouver early this year so it will be wonderful having support while meeting new friends. =)

Hi all,

July would be good, I'm still just thinking about getting through these first 12 weeks....

Looking forwards to meeting you all.

July is a good time. Pls count me in.

Btw, how are you all doing physically? I am in my 8th-9th week. Getting tired a lot. No morning sickness (yet).. Weight gain: +1.5lb. I thought my tummy is getting a bit bigger.. but it shouldn't be in such an early stage of pregnancy, right!? hmm..

Anyway, I hope you all well & looking fwd to discussing more of our progress in the future.

First time for me too. Jan 20th / 6wks

Hi,
I'm clueless first time mom. Please include me in the lunch gatherings.
I plan to go see the OB/GY and get ultrasound sometime this week. I'm at tail end of 6 wks.

Hi,

This is my first pregnancy, too: currently 8 weeks and due January 20th. I work in Wan Chai and would also love to meet up with some other people going through this!

I am 30 and from the US. My husband and I have been in HK just under a year. I am currently seeing Dr. Catherine Cheung, but I am registering with the public system next weekend. I would love to have been able to deliver in a private hospital, but my insurance does not cover pregnancy.

Going to take a nap now : )

Hello nbw,

Welcome to the thread. I'm 30 and from the UK, been here in HK (and China) for 2 and a half years now. We're living near Olympic on Kowloon side.

How are you coping with the pregnancy symptoms? I'm 7 weeks now so one week behind you. So far I'm feeling fine just an occasional bit of tiredness but I know there's still plenty of time for the morning sickness to kick in.....

How does it work using the public health system? I've got insurance cover but because of the waiting period it doesn't start until December. I don't mind paying for the scans etc but I'm really worried about what to do if there is an emergency? I heard the queen mary hospital is very good but I don't know if even the public hospitals are really expensive for emergency treatment. Do you have any advice you could give me?

Look forwards to hearing from you.

Cherina

Hi Cherina,

I will let you know next weekend! I have my first appointment with them on June 19th.

When I called and the receptionist told me I they wouldn't see me until 9 weeks, I couldn't stand the wait--so I went to a private doctor at 6 weeks.

As for symptoms, I get nauseous at times, but the hardest thing is sheer exhaustion. I am definitely looking forward to summer break!

I went back to the doctor this Wednesday because I had a week of brown spotting and pain. Got to see the heartbeat again. Pain is probably a combination of the ligaments stretching and ovarian cysts. Spotting is as of yet a mystery.

I don't really mind paying for the visits--it is HK$ 1000 for the consultation and the scan together. Worth it for peace of mind!

You do have a rather annoying situation there...your insurance doesn't start until December, but you are due at the end of January right?

Did you inquire about how your insurance handles "preexisting condition"? (How awful does that sound?) But some insurance companies will not cover you because you were pregnant before you went on the plan. In that case you definitely need the public system unless you want to pay for the private doctor and the private hospital.

I can't imagine that it would cost a lot if you had to use the public system for an emergency delivery...you have your HKID, so that should act as your coverage. And if you were to deliver in one of the private hospitals and something went wrong, they would most likely send you to a public hospital anyway. If you register--it might just make things easier if it did come to that.

Just a guess, though.

Hope you are able to keep morning sickness at bay : )

Hi nbw and May,

Thanks for the information, I feel a lot calmer now if I end up having to go public for some things. I checked with my insurance and the pregnancy wasn't preexisting so I'm definitely covered from the beginning of December. If there are no complications the birth is the most expensive thing so at least I will be covered for that.

nbw - sorry to hear about your spotting and pain, I know it's quite common but it must be distressing all the same. Hope you don't have any more problems, it's good that you've got the reassurance of a good doc monitoring you.

I'm going for my second scan on Monday so I'm really hoping they can pick up a heartbeat and that everything is ok.

Keep in touch.

Hi everyone,

I am 33 and this is my first pregnancy too. I am from Sydney and I have been in Hong Kong for 1.5 years. It looks like I am having twins too which means I will go through the public system at Queen Mary which I have been told has a high risk pregnancy centre. I am now 9 weeks and due in January but will be a bit earlier because of the twins. The only pregnancy symptom so far is absolute exhaustion, so I have been having lots and lots of naps.

I would love to meet up in July. I live in Mid-Levels but can meet anywhere as I am on holidays during the summer.

Camilla.
