Hi ladies,

I've just found out that I'm expecting twins. Still getting over the shock!

I'm going back to the UK in a couple of weeks and I was wondering - is there anything you would recommend I get in the UK that I can't get in HK/is cheaper than HK?

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Congrats! As a fellow mom of twins I highly recommend Mothers of Multiples of Hong Kong (www.moms-hongkong.com). I didn't have mine here so I never got to buy baby stuff here but plenty of others who can help you!

Don't necessarily agree. If I had them here I would get a Phils & Ted (with the attachment) for the first 18 months and then possibly a second hand MacLaren double and later 2 lightweight singles. MoMs have a classified section too so no need to buy everything brand new, straight away!

Stroller: I got my city mini double from Boots online.
I got some accessories as well later on like the rain cover(you ll need it here) and the belly bar wich my twins love since they re about 10 months old .I got them from http://www.thinktwins.com.au/ not cheap but they deliver to HK

It s a GREAT stroller by the way.You need a side by side in my opinion to avoid fights of who gets in front etc. Very easy to drive, as light as a double stroller can be really(appart from the combi ) I m still using it every day and they are 21 months now. I do have as well 2 single maclaren volo that we use if I only take one boy with me and my helper can take the other one.

Baby monitor:the angelcare movement detetector is half the price in UK for example.

I d recommand the baby bjorn babysitter I got mine second hand here in HK but worth checking the price difference.

If you plan on travelling overseas with them when they re very small maybe check the playtex drop in system (bottles and Bags) I know they re available here but when I used them they didnt have the medium teat here. And the slow one is VERY slow. On our first flight with them (they were 1 month old) I would have had to bring 12 bottles on the airplane. With the playtex you just bring 2 bottles some bags and clean teats.

Check the price difference for swaddling blankets like the miracle blanket.Twins love to be swaddled tight reminds them of the tight space in the woomb ;)

You can order a lot online so that you will have every thing when you arrive in uk: Boots, amazon.uk , mothercare, mamas&papas etc

Last thing the stroller in case you like this one, comes into a box that can easily be checked-in on your flight back to HK

Thanks penelope! I was just wondering - what were your twins sleeping arrangements when they first came back from the hospital? We're trying to work out whether to get cots, moses baskets, etc, keep them in the room with us, etc. Would really welcome any suggestions.

just remember, that with airlines cutting back on baggage allowance, it may cost more to buy there and bring back than it would to buy the stuff here...

Mine started in individual moses baskets in our room. Cheap and worked well for the first 2 months (mine were born very large, normal full term singleton sizes). Then we moved them each in their individual crib in their shared room (we kept our son in a pack and play in our room a little longer since he had severe reflux and ate more frequently; my girl was sleeping 8 hours straight at 8 weeks or so, better to have her do her own thing). At age 1 we separated them into their own room, and they're still in their own room now. We may put my oldest and my twin girl together soon (the twins are boy / girl, very different, all 3 of them). Feel free to pm me with any other questions. Mine are 5 now and in Primary. I had mine in the US though, so slightly different starting position without any full time help (and family in Europe). And don't forget to join MoMs, they do new / pregnant mommy lunches too. There is a mommy lunch (all mommies) scheduled on the 2nd.

My guys were born at 37 weeks 2.4 and 2.6 kg. for the first 2 weeks I think they were in the same Moses basket in our room. Then they went into the same pack and play still in our room untill about 3 or 4 months old when they started sleeping really well.
From then they shared a room but had a cot each.
I don't really think they cared to be together in the first 3 months it was just easier for us space wise.
They only now really starting to "care" for each other. like last night after I put them to bed at 7,I could still ear them giggling at 7.30pm.

Re sleeping my two came home from the hospital at 35 weeks (born at 32wks) both were 2kg when we got them home and slept in the same cot for 9 months.
I think they always slept very well because they had each other to snuggle up with. They were sleeping through by 5 months (so like 3month olds) and have always been great sleepers. There were some other twin mums whose kids would disturb each other though so you just have to see what works for them.
You don't really need too much stuff, a good stroller (We used a bugaboo gecko with the basinet option till they were too big for that- they shared it) and then the Phil and Teds- never had any issues with one wanting to be at the front etc), maybe two bouncers, and a cot at the beginning (or two). We got all our stuff here in HK, the only thing mum brought from Australia was a really good pump which was a lot cheaper then buying it here.
Try not to freak out too much and as mumto3 said, join the mothers of multiples. It is invaluable to meet other twin mums to get ideas, support and understanding!
Good luck

hi, I am a Maternity Nurse currently helping a twins mum and recommended to her the website twins.co.uk which has some very good equipment that she uses and finds very helpful.

Twins are double the fun so I wish you all the best fun!

www.twinstuff.com has good forums with plenty of traffic. It's US based though, so slightly different approach, products, etc. sometimes, but still have useful and probably the best forum when it comes to twins.

I bought the cot divider, and then returned it! My twins were in Moses baskets for the first 3 months and by the time they moved into the cot they were too tall to fit in it with the cot divider. Now the sleep one at each end during naps (they are in separate cots at night as one is sleeping better than the other).

I bought the twinkits for bottle and breastfeeding from the twinsuk website - useful as you get everything you need in one pack. Also recommend the daily care diaries from twinsuk - really useful for keeping track of who is doing what (am still using them)!

Feel free to pm with any questions!

Also I stocked up on things like baby clothes, sheets etc while in uk - light, easy to carry - tend to be more expensive over here if you want to buy stuff that you would get at home (I found it comforting to buy brands I was familiar with)
