Travelling with 3 and a half month old baby

Hi,
I am travelling this weekend for 5 days with my 3 and a half month old baby to Singapore and I would like to store milk for her while I am out on work.
I am not sure if it is alright to store milk in the hotel room mini bar ( will it be the correct temperature??)- but i cant think of other options. I am also thinking probably it will be alright to store in it for 8-12 hours. Please advice

Also wanted to check if it is alright to transport ( take it in flight) 100 ml of pumped out milk in cooler bags for 5 hrs and then store it in the mini bar once i reach the hotel . Will the milk be alright to store then?

Could someone also suggest what all should I buy for my baby from singapore which is not readily available/ is expensive in HK

Hm, not sure about your first question about the fridge temperature, but when I traveled to Langkawi from Singapore, I brought over more than 300 MLs of frozen breast milk in a cooler bag (the Munchkin one with side ice packs) and then I added 2 more ice packs to ensure it stayed frozen. I also had 200+ ML of EBM w/ice packs to use at the airport and in the air. I brought it all on board and had no problems - wasn't even questioned about it. Security might just ask you to taste it, but that's usually it. When I got to the hotel, all of my milk was still frozen after about 4/5 hours of door-to-door traveling. I put it in the mini bar fridge and used it over 2 days. The flight from HK to Singapore is a bit longer so if you want to ensure it stays cold, I would perhaps use dry ice.

As for things to buy in Singapore that are cheaper than in HK - there's not much. Singapore is pretty expensive as everything gets imported as well. The best baby stores here are: Mothercare (various locations @), Mothers Work (Great World City, Tanglin Mall and Marina Bay Sands Shopping), First Years (Paragon) and then there are baby sections in stores like Robinson's and Takashimaya. Is there something in particular you are looking for? Mother's Works has a very high end selection of great quality baby items.

I don't think that you will get past airport security with 100ml of liquid even if it is breast milk. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that these security rules came into force worldwide after a terrorist was thwarted in his attempt to blow up a plane by hiding the explosives in milk bottles. Pls check with the airline
 
I've asked hotels to store the milk for me in their freezer, which is more reliable than the one in the minibar. If you can, try to check-in the milk, if only that it'll be kept colder in the checked luggage compartment of the plane. I used to get tons of things from Singapore, but with the appreciation of the SGD, it's no longer as cheap as it used to be. Things are less expensive in the more "local" shops, like Kiddie Palace rather than Mothercare, etc. NTUC is less expensive than Cold Storage. Good luck and happy shopping!
 
I saw my roomate (colleague) using MilkBank to keep her breastmilk during business trip instead of bag. She did the same by check-in the milk at hotel freezer instead of mini bar at room. for hygiene concerns, she would put the bottles of breastmilk in an extra zip bag before giving to the hotel.
 
personally, i would be so weary of giving my breast milk to the hotel and having them freeze. maybe i am just super paranoid, but i would be scared that someone might open it and put something in it etc....
 
You need to be a bit careful with the minibar as sometimes they may be turned off when you are not in the room. When we went to S'pore, we bought milk and put it in the fridge so that we wouldn't have to order from room service just to get a glass of milk for our son. When we got back the first day, we found out the fridge as well as all the lights in the room turn off when you take your card key out of the slot by the door as all the ice that we had left in the fridge had melted and the milk was warm. So next time we left the card key in the slot with a note to housekeeping to leave the key in, but they took it out any way!
