Hi, we are planning to take our helper (Filipina) on a trip to Indonesia over Christmas, but just realized that she isn't eligibile for a visa on arrival. Has anyone taken their helper to Bali before and have any idea what the process is? The Indonesian consulate so far has provided confusing information. Thanks so much.

Umm, wait a second - as soon as you utter those special words "work for us", things change and can get complicated if you hit the wrong immigration guy.
Please choose your words wisely
Read the requirements for that 30d non-visa carefully and you will see that she will not be allowed to "work". She can be on vacation with you and while on vacation help you look after the kids and do her share of cooking and cleaning, but work will not be allowed.

Yes, we understand that and that is why we called the consulate - to get clarification regarding exactly what was and was not permitted. The US, for example, has very specific rules regarding payment of the US minimum wage or above, working hours, insurance, etc. while she is in the US with us and we want to make sure that we follow all the rules if she travels with us to Indonesia. We have booked her her own room in the resort and it will primarily be a vacation for her - will only have her watch our baby a few hours some nights while we are at dinner- no cooking, cleaning or any other work. Spoke with someone else at their consulate who seemed to understand our query and they said it was fine.

Just becareful when you arrive at immigration; consulate cant help you if the guy in front of you wants to be difficult.
If you or she utters the words "work", she may get refused, you may get detained and any host of other nasty things.
Be very clear that she is there on vacation and remove that dirty 4 letter word (work) from your vocabulary until after you pass customs and immigration. Once you are thru, enjoy your time to the fullest ;-)
