Travel to India and Vaccinations

Hi all,

We are planning a trip to southern India (Kerala) in mid-March with our 11 month old. Anyone have any experience with vaccinations that we should get for her before going? I checked the CDC site (US gov) and the whole thing was just too overwhelming and a little alarming.

Hi Cyberfish, I don't have any experience with India per se but I can recommend the travel clinic at Lucy Lord's practice in Central. I recently visited the travel clinic prior to visiting Cambodia and found their advice very helpful, clear and concise. I too had been confused after looking at several conflicting websites!

Thanks! How does the travel clinic work? Do I need to make an appointment with the travel clinic first? I have never used Lucy Lord's practice. Then do they charge per vaccination?
 
Cyberfish88 besides vaccinations, please take with you LOTS of mosquito repellant bracelets and patches for your baby. If you may have any other questions I would be happy to answer since I recently visited India with my daughter :)

The doctor is called Sarah Borwein. The consultation cost me $750 (vaccs and medications were extra of course). I didn't actually bring my baby with me because I was pretty confident that he wouldn't need any vaccs. Basically Dr Borwein asked about our vacc history (both mine and baby's) and confirmed that nothing else was needed (except for my flu vaccine which cost $180). She ran through the main health risks of the country I was visiting (i.e. low risk malaria, high risk dengue etc) and covered off on ways to minimise our risk of getting sick. She recommended "Kids Rid" for my son to keep the mossies away (cost $130).

I found her to be very knowledgable and efficient.
 
hi cyberfish, i don;t think you need any additional vaccinations for a visit to india apart from the ones u give normally....yes do carry mosquioto repellants.
