travel insurance

Hi

I'm a teacher and going to be travelling home during my summer break. I will be 26 weeks when I leave and 31.5 weeks when I return. I've been looking everywhere for travel insurance but all seem to exclude pregnancy after 30 weeks and child birth. I'm really concerned incase anything should happen mid air. It would break our bank if we had to pay for a plane to divert.
Any suggestions, ideas or useful links would be really appreciated

Hi Nina,

I'm afraid it will be impossible to get an insurance that covers childbirth. I did some very extensive research into policies in HK and abroad, and no one will cover childbirth other than of course your medical insurer if you have one.

So I think the thing to do is to get an insurance that at least covers complications of pregnancy and will be pay cancellation charges if you need to cancel. You can always visit a doctor before you fly to see if there is any risk you might go into labor prematurely.

Good luck and have a safe flight!

Hi Nina,

No problem. I have a question though regarding the Blue Cross policy. I have just been in touch with them and they say they exclude pregnancy as a pre- existing condition, full stop, even though their exclusions policy only says childbirth and miscarriage. How did you get the information on the 30 week cut off and the childbirth bit?

Cha-cha, if you are reading this, could you please tell me how you went about it? Should I be speaking to someone in particular?

Thanks!
