Travel in Tokyo with baby

My husband and I are going to Tokyo in January for a holiday with our bub who will be 3 months old. Has anyone had experience with travel in Tokyo with baby?

In Hong Kong we would usually use our baby carrier in taxi's, is this allowed in Tokyo or do we need to take a car seat for her?
Any advice would be great!

Smiles, if no one has any good info, or you have specific questions, send me a PM in late december... we are going Dec 22-Jan2

I lived in Tokyo for 5 years - both my kids were born there. Very child friendly. Public transport great. If you feel comfortable without a car seat in a taxi, then it's legally fine. (Though they do sell a fantastic light weight combi travel system there!) Taxi drivers lovely and patient.
Let me know if you want an info on child friendly stuff.
Cheers,
Cath

Also lived in Tokyo for about 6 years - but did not have children there.

It isn't a very stroller-friendly city in the sense that public transport rarely has elevators or even escalators! Lots of stairs and crowded streets. I would say don't bother with the carseat, taxis are quite clean and safe. If you are okay with carrying baby in a carrier go with that - and just bring umbrella stroller for backup.

It is a very safe and wonderful city though! let me know if you want any ideas on activities! :)
