Toxoplasmosis Testing?

I had the test several weeks ago. I went to Central Diagnostic Clinic, 3rd Fl, Central Building. Phone 2522 9938. Call them to confirm price . I paid $3260, but that also included an antenatal blood study and HIV test. I remember they took a lot of blood! They called with the results that afternoon.

The test just for toxoplasmosis is only HK$360. I also did it at the Central Diagnostic Clinic. If you are found to be positive, they will ask you to come back after 10 days for another test to see if the levels increase. If they haven't, then it means that it was an old infection and now you have antibodies!

what is the purpose for toxoplasmosis testing? i think that it is a disease caused by cat's virus. i have a cat and a dog at home. do i need to undergo toxoplasmosis test? also, is there any vaccination for this?

from what I read, not all cats have it and since most cats in HK are housebound and have never been out, the chances of them picking it up is slim. In any case, if your cat has it and you have owed it for a while, then you've probably gotten it before, have antibodies and would not get it again. Think what you have to worry about is handling cats which you do not own and not washing your hands properly thereby ingesting the virus accidentally.

you can also get it from eating raw beef, but pregnant women shouldn't change kitty litter anyway

you can get your cat tested at the vets if you're worried.
