Not meaning to sound smug or tick people off but can a baby have too much sleep?

Our 7 month old sleeps 11 hours at night, another 2 hours in the morning, an hour and a half at lunch time and then another hour in the afternoon. Often I am the one to wake her up and shee still seems really tired most of the time. Is there something wrong?

I asked myself the same question sometime. My girl turns 12 months a week ago and have to sleep for at least 15 hrs per day. 12 hours at night time, 1 hour after breakfast and at least 2 hrs at lunch time.
If I remenber it right, when she was 7 months, she also slept for an extra hr (or even more) in the afternoon.
I have asked two pead., both of them told me I should be very happy because baby needs sleep.

If she still seems tired you might want to get her checked out but otherwise just sleeping a lot is no big deal.

My 14 month old goes to bed at 7.30 and wakes anywhere between 8 and 9. He's even slept til 10 on the odd occasion!

He's been like this pretty much since birth. He also has two naps a day, one for an hour and one a bit longer.

He is really healthy and when he's up he just doesn't stop for a minute so I figure he needs his sleep. They do their growing when asleep which might explain why he is so tall!

i wouldn't be worried, my 6.5 mth old only can stay awake for max 2 hours. He is on an amazing schedule and he loves being structured and is very happy:

He does:
1.5 - 2 hour morning nap (wakes at 6:30 or 7 and is back in bed by 8:30ish)

1.5 - 2 hour lunch time nap 12 - 2pm

1 hour in the late afternoon 4:00 - 5:00

In bed at 7pm and wakes at 6:30 or 7am

mine doesn't sleep much - ~8pm to ~6am, plus 2 to 3 x 30min to 1 hour naps. I wish he could sleep more. I found that my bb's milk intake correlates with sleep. The more he sleep, the more he drinks.
