Too late for a helper?

I am going back to work on January 2011, and was planning to have a helper to take care of my baby starting sometime on December this year (next month)... I know it is too late now, specially if I want to hire someone oversea.... Is there a way I could find a helper that could start working in December? If I find someone that has just finished her contract and is still in Hong Kong, could it be possible for her to start in 1 or 2 months?
 
Possible, if the helper has just finished a contract in Hong Kong and is already here (has a HKID), so that you simply have to do a transfer. Agencies will sometimes have a list of potential transferees, but bear in mind that some of them may have been terminated with cause. I prefer to get a referral and hire an agent to facilitate the paperwork. Good luck!
 
Really? Just 3 weeks? I went to some agencies and they said that even when the helper is in HK, they will have to go back to their country to wait for the new visa.

i have interviewed a helper who was looking for a new employer in HK and both she and my agent (whom we later asked and confirmed) that she has to return back to her home country for 6-8 weeks for her new work visa. and it costs HKD$5k for the process. anyone else with the same info?
 
If the helper has finished her contract she doesn't need to go home. You can delay her return home by a year. She can also do the paperwork on her own, and it will cost less than $300. If you use an agency, Cara is right it is around $3K
 
Be careful as the contracts and visa delivery might be delayed now because of the new insurance policies with Philippines (SCMP yesterday).
