Toddler waking up at night - help

My daughter is 20 months old and have been sleeping through the night since 2 months old. However, all of a sudden, she has been waking up crying in the middle of the night, sometimes 3 times, just wondering if anyone has experienced this? What did you do?

she might be suffering nightmares....both of mine have suffered from them... my almost 4 yr old son still has "night terrors". he basically screams and squeals and cries for 5-30 minutes... it is virtually impossible to "get through" to him. he eventually settles himself back to sleep.

he started this when he was about 18 months.

my daughter is 22 months, almost 23m, and sometimes wakes often at night. usually she only wakes once, sometimes twice. there have been nights, though, that she has woken 3-4 times! she often wakes crying and needs a cuddle... she then settles herself back to sleep. i think she has woken from a bad dream and just wants reassurance that we are still there....

Another thing maybe be teething or a growth spurt. Mine do this for a short period of time when a few teeth are trying to break through and then once they have appeared it goes back to normal. Or, with my 4 yo, she has about a week of restless sleep and then a few days later she is a little taller!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I guess the conclusion is that there is nothing we can do except be there to reassure them when they need it.
