Toddler dislikes riding stroller

My 19-month old toddler has recently started to dislike riding her stroller. The past week or so, each time we tried to get her to ride the stroller, she would violently object. She is usually an easy and happy little girl, and in the past, had no issues with riding her stroller, so this anti-stroller reaction comes as a surprise.

We like taking our little one out for walks, and around town when we need to run errands, but it is difficult to do this if she doesn't ride the stroller because she is too heavy to carry. In addition, she doesn't like being carried around on baby carriers, of which, we have tried all kinds (Baby Bjorn, Ergo, Hippychick, etc.) but with no success.

My husband and I are hoping that this is just a phase, but would like to know if there are others who have had a similar experience...Any advice/ suggestions would also be most appreciated!

My daughter had the same phase about the same age...

Basically I didn't leave her any choice ( and that meant a real fight to put in the stroller and bind her) and after some time she realised I would not let go on this point... so she stopped screaming, fighting and so on.

But at the same time each time that I could, I would let her walk by herself... for example to go to the playground nearby

thanks Merichan!

our midwife confirmed that this is part of her development (her need to assert her independence) and also said the same thing....let her walk as much as she/ we can handle!

appreciate your response.

When it is just me and my little girl, she knows that she can't run off especially if I have the stroller. So as a compromise, she knows that she can walk if I have the stroller but she must hold my hand or hold the side of the stroller. Holding the stroller is her favourite as she thinks she is so grown up. She learnt this, because everytime she ran away from me I would put her straight back in to the stoller.
