Hi moms,

Just wondering when is the best time to start discipling ur toddler.
Mine is 21 months old.And he can test ur patients beyond limits!!!

How do i approach him?I have read that we shud deal it the easy nice way.And also to ignore sometimes.
But...what if he plays on/ off on the TV or Computer inspite of all the nicey ways and ignoring session.
I had seen Super nanny and she suggests "naughty corner" Can i use that with my boy?Is he too small for that?
Perhaps leaving him to Playschool will get rid of some of his nasty behaviours like hitting on my face and pulling my hair.i dono...

Anyone else getting stressed out like me?

Disciplining toddler

I think 21 months is old enough for "naughty corner" or sitting on a bench, etc.

I would recommend nothing more than about 30 seconds at this point. Put your child there and turn your back, so the child knows it was not acceptable.
The stages:

1) Request & Warn
Child approaches TV to play with it. You say "No, please don't play with the TV" and get up and lead child away.

Child tries again, you again say, NO. don't play with the TV, you don't want to sit on the bench/stool/in the corner".

Child tries again. You say "No, you need to listen, do not play with the TV. Now you have to sit on the bench.

2) The Benching
Take child and place on bench. Tell child you must sit here because you didn't listen. Walk away and turn back on child. First time make it 15-10 seconds.

3) Reconciliation
Child may be weeping. Reconcile, something along the lines of "Mama loves you, but you need to learn to listen. Do you understand?" Hug, kiss & forget about it.

Prevention

A lot is to be said for doing things like blocking the TV to prevent kids from doing what you don't want them to do, until they are capable of more self-control.

Sears is more ideological, Green is less so, and more jokey in that British/Irish way.

I shall def try the "naughty corner " with my boy.
I got the book by Green not the one by sears yet.

i try my 23 months old son to kneel down, face the wall and pull his ear. of cos he will continue crying in the meantime. 1st few time he does not comply but gradually he knows how to kneel down and pull his ear. sometimes it works and i used it to 'threaten him' if he is disobedient. it's pretty cute to see them follow thru' the instruction too.
